Hello! I have an idea for a cat character that I would love help to start a story for. My biggest problem is always the start and I'd love help or to commission someone.
Essentially it's a cat that was let outside and he often goes to the woods outside their house. One day he hears his owners calling him but he runs deeper into the woods than normal. He naps in a small den and unfortunately perishes in a fire. When he wakes up he's been still in the woods but unable to hear or smell and can't find his way back. He's a spirit of sorts and is made up of ashes.

My feet tingled as I stood at the line I told myself I would never cross. Too far from home. I reminded myself. The large oak was my boundary, the symbol of my safety. I knew the way home from the line. I knew all that existed on this side of the line. I never crossed the line.
But the mouse I had been chasing stood just on the other side of the line. After scurrying safely to the other side, he stared me down for a long moment, sides heaving with the thrill of the chase. Now he has relaxed a bit. His nose twitched curiously and his breathing had slowed. He didn't know why I had stopped. He was unknowingly teasing me, and I couldn't bare the humiliation. It's just a line. Not even one someone has set for me. Just my own silly rule. I could cross it. I could pounce and the mouse wouldn't know what hit him.
My tail flicked with anticipation, a grin curling my lips. My legs pushed on and, for the first time in my life, I landed on the other side of the line.
The mouse was quick to dodge my attack, but I was quickly on his heels once again. A swipe of my paw and I just missed him. He took me on a wild chase through the woods, adrenaline pumping for both prey and predator. New scents of maple and rabbit filled my nose. The earth beneath my claws became softer, richer. The night was darker here than it was at home.
Our game finally came to an end as the mouse darted beneath a fallen log. "Good chase, my clever adversary. Until next time." I was certain I could have pursued, but it was late and my servants would be wondering where I was.
As soon as I turned around, my heart sunk within me.
I didn't know this place. I was far beyond the borders of my usually territory. Nothing was familiar.
I shook out my fur, trying to rid myself of the doubt and fear that were creeping in. It was fine. I put on a confident air and took a step forward. I was more than capable of following my own tracks. I would just backtrack until something looked familiar.
The later it got, the less I was sure I wasn't lost. I must have been walking for hours, and my stomach was rumbling, but still there was no sign of home. Despite the dark of night, the heat of the day lingered relentlessly.
The small den I had made out of a hollowed out log was rough, splintery and far from comfortable, but at least it was somewhere to lie down. Backtracking in the dark, hot night didn't sound like a bit of fun to me, so I decided I'd wait here. I forced a smile. Well, at least it hadn't rained in a while and the wood was dry.
I wasn't sure how to transition into the fire and him becoming a spirit part, but feel free to use all or non of this. I was just having fun writing it :)
