Hello! With the revisiting of other rules regarding commissions, I was hoping that the bumping rules and possibly the "no more than one thread" rule on the art market could possibly be revisited by staff. As of right now, the forum is slow, so anyone who gets bumped off the front page pretty much stays there, I think that allowing people to bump thier thread (maybe with a timer of once per week) would be helpful, so potential customers can see what shops are active, even if they haven't been getting as many sales as others.
As a personal account, I created a commissions topic and wound up getting no responses, my topic was soon pushed back to the second page, but I am currently not allowed to bump it to get back to the first page, nor am I allowed to make a second topic, so even though I am active and seeking commissions, my topic is unlikely to be seen and I'm stuck with no options in order to get my topic noticed.
I know that the rules were in place for a reason, when things were busier it made sense so it wasn't a constant competition with tons of bumping, but with how slow the forum is now, I think that having the ability to bump would be really useful for the art market forum.
A for the multiple topics rule, I think this could also be useful for members who might want to keep different types of commissions separate, such as someone having an overlay shop and also a general character art shop, it would also be useful imo if people wanted to do any sort of flash sale, or example if I wanted to do a discount for CSC for a specific goal. But as for this one, I'm less invested in seeing it change!
If other people feel the same, feel free to chime in, or if you disagree I'd love to know why. Thanks!
I agree to a change in the rules because of forum activity. As the boards are slow. I also wouldn't necessarily hate a different board per type of commission as it can get hard as a consumer to go through all the information. However I am not sold on the no bumping rule. A user can't double post to my knowledge outside of staff.
Here to toss in my support for changing the rules regarding the boards on the art market. As someone who does like to try and commission artists, those forums have been really really dead and it's difficult to determine who is even active anymore.
There are topics on the main page that haven't been responded to since September of 2022 - we cannot post on them or on anything from the previous page because it violates the no Necro rule. However, there are artists who cannot create new boards because their old ones haven't reached the third page yet.
When this became an issue on the CW forums, forum mods were able to determine adjusted rules to help folks have active shops/commission threads and not be limited to waiting indefinitely in a board that may not be moving at a reasonable pace anymore.
Not being allowed to post on Necro'd threads + artists not being able to create a new thread even if theirs has been necro'd means less ability for folks to find artists.
With the new rule adjustment, it's my hope these forums might finally start to get active again, but in the meantime it may be really helpful to adjust the rules regarding new threads/Necro on art market threads at least until the forums are moving at a better pace.
The forum thread has mentioned for their art is beyond 6 months old so nobody is even allowed to post on it anymore, but they're also not allowed to create a new topic either. It's kind of a bad spot to be in for artists in a forum that has seen a massive slow down.
Pinging because you're the mini mod for the Art Market forums.
Thank you both for the support!
I didn't realize the fact of not being able to double post could be a logistical issue, hopefully some sort of compromise can be figured out! The issues that mentioned are definitely a big part of frustration, having a thread just be in limbo without the chance to do anything about it is no fun. I actually edited my commissions topic and fixed it up a few months after i made it, only to realize i couldn't bump, and then I checked the rules to make sure I would follow them and realized I couldn't repost the thread so I was like welp, did all that for nothing
I'm not 100% sure of the best balance for the forum, but maybe even a change of the Necro rule on the art market forum would be a big help, that way people aren't worried about posting on an older thread to see if the user is still doing commissions
A general aside, but if a topic is on the second page of the art forum, it's fine to be locked.
Re-editing to change this since I originally thought this was a topic regarding changing the necro rule. I'd be open to re-visiting the necro rule when it comes to the art forums since they can be super slow. I'd also just be open to changing the multiple topics rule, or even changing it so old topics can be re-used since artists in the past have re-used existing commission topics for their newer commissions before which I think contributes to the slow amount of time it takes for topics to reach the second page.
I'm kind of on the fence regarding allowing different types of topics of the same type(character, flash, for digital commissions, for instance), to be on the forum since my innate feeling is thinking it might look kind of messy on the forums, but if it pushes the forums to be more active, I'd be open to it overall.
Adding in an addendum for bumping, but I'm not keen on bumping since as far as I know logistically, users aren't currently allowed to double post, with the exception of staff, but under the current logistics of the forums, the double posting restriction itself would need to be addressed and I'm not sure how that'd work under how the forums currently work.
Just wanted to say I fully support this being looked into. I'm not good at being wordy but I'll be eagerly following this topic!
Regarding bumps not being possible due to not being able to double post... maybe we could get something similar to the site toyhouse? On there I'm allowed to bump my art thread every thirty minutes without posting - it's just a button that appears. Maybe Subeta could do something similar and allow artists even one weekly bump just to show people they're open for business.
Support on this change but also Please just let us bump our threads there. I'm actively AVOIDING replying to people fast because of my timezone and so my active time is when subetas player count is at it's lowest. I'm waiting until late night just so i can reply when the player count is higher to minmax when my stupid thread gets bumped with my reply on the top so the most people have a chance to see it. I hate doing this. I want to work as fast as possible not to do this mess and leave folks waiting.

Support!
I had a commission topic at one point that just faded into obscurity because no one was posting, and I couldn't bump it. I don't love the idea of having to make a new one every time mine slips off the front page.
Obviously, if people took it too far and bumped every time their topic was no longer the first thread on page one or something crazy like that, it would be a problem, but personally I think that would be covered under your general "No Spam" rules.
Also just thinking in terms of art boards being split for overlays versus general art. I too was under the impression that I had to buy redrawn overlays from art market and if it was just a color edit then that fell under profiles & graphics. I became the co-minimod for graphics sometimes last year and technically it states in the pet profiles subforum.
Welcome to the new Pet Profiles forum!
This forum is for the purchase and sale of pet profiles, overlays, buttons and any other related accessories.
That was posted in 2011. So wondering if perhaps that was the original way to help artists declinate their work and have multiple boards. But also now both forum sections are way way slower
Now is a great time to reevaluate these rules. Bringing creative people in and streamlining their experience on the forums will be beneficial to everyone in the creative community. Both buyers and sellers.
thanks for the input! honestly just one small tweak will probably make things better, and i trust your (and the other minimods) judgement on what would work best, since you guys would be dealing with the changes. Honestly the necro rule being changed would probably make a big enough impact as it is, or even just a general update to the rules list since the wall of text look kind of intimidating (and i somehow didnt see that i could make a new thread if my board was on the second page, thanks for pointing that out btw!)
I do really like the idea of bumping if it winds up being popular, what Hannah66665 mentioned sounds really nice, but would involve some more effort with coding (well anything with bumping would)
interesting to know about the overlays thing... seems kind of confusing imo, though i can see why stuff like that would be separated!
Definite support here! I think even just lifting the necro rule would help out a ton. For me, it'd clear up some of the ambiguity between "is this person's shop still actively open but there haven't been any posts" and "did this person forget to specify that they're no longer taking commissions and now i've bumped this by mistake?"
On the other side, I've found myself in similar spots to where I find myself stuck between wanting to reply to another person and being afraid of getting "softlocked" if I reply and nobody else replies after. That's what I feel is the biggest area for improvement. Toyhou.se does this really well with allowing you to press a button to "auto-bump" as well as double post.
Some ideas:
I'm not a coder so I don't know how do-able double posting or an "auto-bump" button would be, but just to throw some metaphorical spaghetti at the walls!
was thinking about this a bit more today, mainly about the subject of multiple threads by one user not being allowed. i mentioned in my original post that an example would be a user wanting to have a separate thread for something like overlays vs normal art, but another reason would be if someone wanted to sell a batch of designs, and want a separate thread for that because its so different than normal commissions.
i have been thinking of making some subeta specific adoptable designs, and this is something i would possibly want to use a separate thread for, i know some sites even have a specific subforum for something like that, though i dont know if that would work out here, seeing as selling things like adopts isnt super popular over here
I support this idea. I am pretty new here, but as someone who would love to commission an artist in the future, the deadness of the board was not encouraging when I first browsed through it. I would love to see a board that would push the more active artists to the top of the page.
tbh just get rid of the necro limit for art forums (or raise it to like a year) and let artists have as many active threads as they deem necessary (like 's example of having a general ongoing commission thread + a one-off thread for selling something specific). if they want to close down a thread they can request it be locked, so people don't have to guess whether or not it's still active.
obviously these rules were implemented to prevent spamming/overwhelming the forum with excessive threads, but there are hardly enough active users for that to even really be a concern at this point. if someone is abusing the system, that can be dealt with if/when it occurs.
