Am I the only one that thinks that the current design is a lot better and cuter than V2? I found myself quickly wanting to switch back after trying it out. There's simply TOO MUCH white color on these pages, it looks like those pages where you are testing your HTML but didn't set colors in CSS yet.
It just feels odd to me that not even one of the UAs or mods are disagreeing with the site owner on the fact that the new design will eventually get forced to everyone.
This re-code has literally been years (YEARS) in the making. There are several reasons behind it, I know lots of us do prefer V1 but there are many back-end issues with coding that the team is aiming to address. Also, the site is not the same size it used to be, and the servers sometimes have a hard time handling us as it is.

Because the code will eventually be fully obsolete. Some code going almost way back the full 18 years. Standards, protocols, and language evolve and with it things no longer become supported. Even how various internet companies process the information has changed. Time and time again staff noted that things break in unexpected ways and or work in unexpected ways. A massive rewrite is necessary and also allows for better data queries, efficiency, and new features to be utilized. So eventually yeah things must be rewritten and ported over. V2 has some features running through it and in a new coding language that is easier to fix and better supported.
if the color is the main thing thats bothering you, im sure there will be at the very least a dark mode implemented when v2 is further along, seeing as its pretty standard nowadays.
There's already a dark mode. In V2, click on your avatar headshot then select change theme.
there actually is a dark mode already, if you click on your avatar headshot and choose "change theme"—though i guess it's not 100% troubleshot, as that little options menu keeps its white background even as all the text turns white lol. still plenty of fine-tuning to be done on the new site.
i've seen other people complain about the V2 site having "too much" white space or "not enough" color, or is overall too minimalist. i think it's really just the lack of sidebar and limited number of pages available that's throwing people off; aside from the sidebar and header, the current version of the site also has fully white backgrounds and black text. it's the content (namely the images) actually ON the pages that provides visual interest. that's not going to magically disappear once those pages are transitioned to V2. the V2 site only has a very small handful of pages and is still very much in-progress, so it just seems weird to be coming to these conclusions at this point.
(also many of the text headers do in fact have color; some are green, some are orange, and yeah, some are still black. it's clearly a work in progress.)
like i said: still plenty of fine-tuning to be done. they're rebuilding the entire site from almost the ground up; i think final color decisions can come after more of the components are actually present and functional.
I mean, as a coder, there's a lot of things that go into sites like these. Hundreds of thousands of lines of code and that's on the lower end. I'm not going to bore people with the long winded explanation, no one reads it anyways when it's from me, but things are going more and more "bump" in the night and it's turning into more and more problems.
Shorter version: V2 is supposed to fix some very outdated coding that may be security risks at very least, that's the very short, simple way of wording why people even try to recode massive sites.
I'm also pretty sure that Subeta has like... maybe... two? Coders at this point? Idk.

It's nit picky posts like these that kind of bug me. V2 isn't fully fleshed out yet. It's still a work in progress and as much as I love V1, I'm ready for V2 to be finished. I remember when V2 did a soft launch and it was easier to use and navigate. Subeta is an 18 year old website and it's gone through a lot of growing pains but most of us have been around long enough to be excited for the new changes when they do occur.
Working on filled wardrobe achievement. Almost at 12k!
