Example if I had bought a bottom item similar to , how would I use them without the original ha leg base showing?

If you click on the Base tab in the wardrobe, you'll see toggles for different limbs so you can remove them. So to use a bottom item like that one, you'd have to turn off the left and right leg, foot, and toes toggles.
