I'm new to Subeta so I apologize if this is a silly question, but where can I find different colored pets? I know that you can change their color with potions/elixirs/etc. but are there events or quests where I can find a pet that's not just the standard color?

If you're adopting a new pet, no, they always come in Common. You would have to use one of the methods for changing its color if you want it to be something else
