hey, so i'm planning on starting up an art shop, doing OC/HA headshots, (maybe)busts and dragons.
I'm not sure if I've lowballed myself with my preset of 35USD/3.5k csc for headshots: example one two and three
here's some admittedly old bust samples drawn back in 2017 and 2018 respectively. i've gotten better since then, aha.
here are examples of my dragons: one two (more sketchy) and three
since i hyperfocus i tend to be able to get art out within a couple of hours, though i enjoy working closely with clients so that they are happy with the work and so i know i am giving them what i want, so i'm not sure how to price, personally.
any advice would be appreciated!
Hi there! My two cents as someone who's commissioned art on a semi-regular basis. I think $30-40 sounds quite fair for a headshot, though I personally feel like the csc price should be increased a little bit, maybe about 125% of the USD equivalent, so about 4-5k.
Your dragons are lovely! I'm not a quad person usually but I feel like they could go for 40-60 USD depending on complexity of the design. If you're not too sure, you can adjust the prices based on the level of detail/effort (like sketch/lined/shaded etc)
Just my opinion but happy to hear others!
oh! i've been told i am underpricing my headshots, i got a nice tip from my last commission because of the underpricing.
the dragons are way, way more of a time sink, so 40-60 would be ouch. the two armed lad was a commission here for 75 that went up to 100usd because the person kept asking for changes when it was already fully rendered. mind you this was years ago, but the dragons are a lot more of a crunch than the headshots.
headshots i can knock out quickly.
Ah I see, my apologies if my thoughts turned out to be lowballing- as I didn't know how long the dragons took. Admittedly I also earn in a currency that is much weaker than USD so I tend to overestimate how much a dollar is- so I'm sorry if I caused offense. For the headshots, I just went by how much headshots I've commissioned in the past have been, though of course it is fantastic if people are willing to pay more for your work!
If you're unsure, you can always open up a store first with your prices and see how it goes from there!
oh no offense taken! i'm also working from a currency that is really weak from USD! sorry if i seemed upset ahhhh
i've opened up an art shop-- if it works, it works!
