Ok, so it was the New Year in Israel, we had a big festivity at the elderly place I work. I bought some sparkling wine, gifts for everyone, sweets, you know, the works :) But someone else took the credit for everything, now they're "the angel" around and I'm out of 400 bucks, tired like a dog and disappointed AF. AND I still feel guilty for feeling like this, like...pathetic or so...UGH, help?

3 days later: Thanks guys, as usual, very helpful...silence IS an answer blowing in the wind, so thanks for being here when I need you...

THANK YOU, ANON! Made my day and teared me up, but in a good way <3

Sadly this forum isn't so active.

If it were me I'd go to whomever handles the payouts for things like this if your company pays back people for items like this. Otherwise take it up with the person "Hey you want the credit for my efforts? I'm gonna need that $400 paid back" Or next time if you still feel so kind to have treats make sure to post a banner that says "To all my coworkers Happy Event, enjoy the goodies, from Name"

But I'd honestly try to take it up in private to recoup money.

FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.

Thanks for answering. I know I should recover the money, it was almost half my monthly pay, but it was my choice, so not complaining. The credits however...I mean that pat on the back, that "'atagirl", or at least a heart felt thanks, you know? I still feel pathetic, the important thing is everyone got what they need and they smiled and were happy, so...But for the future events I should take the moocher on the side and let them know it's not ok...yeah...I'll do that. Thanks <3

You don't need to feel guilty for feeling bad after someone took the credit for your contribution--what they did isn't OK. Especially if you put like half what you make each month into the celebration for everyone to enjoy.

I think it'd be OK to privately pull her aside and express that you're disappointed/hurt that she hasn't corrected people, or shown her own gratitude. I don't think it's unreasonable to get some credit for something you worked hard on for others to enjoy!

Also if they're willing to take credit for something like this I'd be questioning other things they have said they've done. They've possibly demonstrated the type of person that they are with this. I also know there's a slim chance they feel awkward about correcting people about who did it, but usually people TRY to not take the credit for things they didn't do. When I get praise for something I had no part of I usually say "Thanks, but it wasn't me. I appreciate you think I could do this thing though." And if I know who did it I tell them, or suggest finding out if a manager might know who set up the fun stuff.

So true, she actually took credits for someone else that organized a b-day party! They weren't as nice and gentle as I was though :D They tell her straight to butt out of other people's business, or actually put money and effort where her snob nose is taking credits :D Maybe I sound mean, but I'm so happy :D :D Thanks for talking to me about it and for being so patient, you helped a lot <3

Super late to the party.. I'm not on subeta much, lately - especially this year i've been off a lot, and still will be. I would have replied much sooner otherwise.

I hope you're feeling better now. i just wanted to tell you that your feelings were valid: it's normal to want some recognition when we put effort into doing something, even when it doesn't cost a dime. But when it costs about half of one's monthly income, when money doesn't grow on trees, even more so. And others taking credit for it? let's not go there.

i send you a virtual hug, and many (belated) wishes of good luck and happiness in the new Jewish year.

I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
