• Tell us about your first "childhood first fish gone wrong" situation. I "hooked" my mom in the back of the head. i do not remember it, but my mom sure does!!! i still to this day if we go fishing end up with my line in the trees, limbs, whatever i can seem to find hah!

- Tell us about your first "childhood first fish gone wrong" situation. So many of us have one!

In Brazil there is a very typical party called ''festa junina'', there are several games where we can win different types of prizes. In a year (a long time ago) the prize was a real fish! I was super excited and went to play and ended up winning one. Because I have many kittens at home, I was afraid to raise it and ended up giving it to my maternal grandmother, where I used to go to her house every day. She loved the gift and always took great care of it, changing the aquarium water almost every weekend. One day when I was there, I was willing to help, but as I was still very small, she let me just watch. At the moment when she went to take the fish out, it jumped really really really hard and ended up slipping out of her hands and under the washing machine! We ran to drag the machine and take out the fish, which was all dusty…my grandmother ''bathed'' the fish before putting it in the aquarium! Because it got so dusty that it could dirty the water that had just been changed! To this day when I remember that moment, I laugh. We nicknamed the fish the ''monkey'' for the super high jumps from side to side it made! LOL

I really LOVE the Kraken mythology! In my opinion, it certainly already existed in some distant past, I find it amazing in how many maps, books and treasures of pirates and navigators the Kraken appears! It doesn't enter my head that it was just an imagination shared BY THE WHOLE WORLD almost identically!!! I love the concept of him being the size of an island and being a giant octopus (which is one of my favorite animals). In fact, we have a live sample of a giant invertebrate! the giant squid! if we have giant squid, we may have had/maybe still have a giant octopus too!

- If you could realistically have a sea animal as a pet, which would you choose and why?

I would love to have a shark! It's one of my favorite animals too (I even have a tattoo of a shark and I really love it! <3 ) I even have a big pool here at home that I keep dreaming of going after an adoption/purchase/anything from kind of a shark to put it here LOL But joking aside, it would be very difficult to take care of a shark living more than 600km from a beach :c They are amazing, intelligent, beautiful and subtle animals, I really like the way they deal with migration and I have a life goal of demystifying the belief that all sharks are killers (since all deaths caused by one, are by exploratory bites and not out of ''killing will'')

• Tell us about your first "childhood first fish gone wrong" situation. So many of us have one! one late christmas night after family left, cleaned out the fish tank and was letting it have a little water soak before moving fishy back. left fishy in temporary tank with a secure top!!! placed on the stove (100% safely, everything was off for ~7 hours at this point -- where we always put it bc lack of counter space). as we had a few minutes, i was opening gifts in another room with my mom and we heard a clatter & then a weird repetitive noise, kinda freaked us out. got the courage to go to kitchen, fishy had a) knocked the not so 'secure' top off temporary tank b) jumped out of tank and onto the stove, didn't stop there, went under the grate (not exactly easy to do lmao) t______t guess fishy wanted back into regular tank, as it was grate w/ temp tank, grate, little counter corner, sink with usual tank.... :x fishy had crumbles all over, got a quick wash and into the finished tank, unharmed. totally shocked us more than fishy haha. from then on it was a sit on the floor with the tank there and hold the top, learned my lesson!

What is your favorite Aqua or Hydrus pet and why? My favourite is the Hydrus Kanis, I think because I have one as a pet I've grown fond of them. They look fierce and yet cute to me, and I just really love the little seahorse on the horn ^^

Do you have a favorite movie/book/game about a sea creature or undersea world? Tell us about it! When I was a kid I loved the Pendragon book series, there is a different world featured in each one and if I'm remembering correctly the second book, The Lost City of Faar, is the one that featured an undersea city. I remember the book conjuring up beautiful scenes and really enjoying the adventure story! Side note, I never actually finished the whole series - I should do a reread sometime c:

If you could realistically have a sea animal as a pet, which would you choose and why? I think I would pick either seals because they're so cute or dolphins because they're so smart so it'd cool to bond with one!

- What is your favorite Aqua or Hydrus pet and why? I love the vibrant teal of the whole aqua line, but I almost made myself both an aqua Yaherra and an aqua Zentu. I'm still not sure I won't. It's such a rich color that looks so elegant with their gold accents.

Sharkies! They're so deeply misunderstood, and were misunderstood since long before Jaws made everyone panic about them. They're also living dinosaurs. Like, sure, the ones alive today weren't alive with the dinos, but they are very similar to the ones that were. Obviously we need to be cautious of them, but we need to be cautious of all wildlife. That doesn't mean they're just mindless slaughtering machines. They're cool!

- What do you think mermaids would be like if they were real? I was actually trying to write a Little Mermaid re-telling story for a while (where in she was given goat legs, she and her sisters were literally created from 'the moon's tears', a Cinderella-type character was the shrine maiden princess person who got engaged to the prince, the sea witch was a magical mountain like the volcanos in I Lava You, and several other ideas that sound fun but just never came together to actually be a story) and spent quite a bit of time thinking over how I wanted the mermaids to look. I dug into studying what fish look like and why they look that way for a bit while trying to figure it out. I definitely think they'd be rounder, as it were, because it gets really cold really quick as you go down. And in general they'd definitely need more fish traits than mermaids are often depicted as having. Color and style wise, I think the mermaids would take on the general looks of the other kind of marine life you find in various areas, and the deeper you go the more likely you'd fine the horror-story ones, as far as looks go. Just like the super deep ocean fish can look like they belong in horror stories.

- What do you think mermaids would be like if they were real? I remember reading this children's book when I was young, the front cover shows a real mermaid swimming in the ocean. I forgot the name of the book but it's a total surprise to me finding that there are "real mermaids" XD The real mermaids in my head would be like her: wavy brown hair, with clams as the bras, with scallops and other sea decoration in her hair as hair clippers or headband, and with seashells as earrings. Her lower body would just be like a real fish, in which the skin down her back blends in with the scales. - What is your favorite Aqua or Hydrus pet and why? My favorite hydrus pet is the blob pet. It is the most unique pet out of all other hydrus pets as it is just a pretty seashell with a flower carving in the middle. Its eyes are Sapphire which shines in the sunlight. - Tell us an aquatic-themed joke! Where does a mermaid keep her money? In the riverbank!

Favourite hydrus pet: Hydrus Blob nails it for me. Why all the fuss when you can make it simple.

Fovourite kind of ocean/sea animal: The sea horse. They are cute. And the males give birth to the babies. LOL

What is your favorite Aqua or Hydrus pet and why? The Hydrus Legeica is so beautiful and I love how it resembles a sea horse. I've always loved seahorses ever since I was a little kid. :)

Do you have a favorite movie/book/game about a sea creature or undersea world? Tell us about it! I really liked how Mermaids were depicted in the Korean drama "The Legend of the Blue Sea". While they could choose to come to land, they would need to return to the ocean often so they would be able to survive. I also thought it was handy that their tears turned into pearls. The main character watched a lot of dramas that would make her cry so she'd have money. This is an equally funny and endearing drama. • Tell us about your first "childhood first fish gone wrong" situation. So many of us have one! My parents bought us some fish we had a tank and everything and they just kept dying within the week. We finally ended up not getting any more fish. We had fish burials for a long time and finally ended up just flushing them. Very sad XD

Get a Plucko! They are amazing and help clean up the tank. Also, Angel fish are not angels! They are quite aggressive, which leads me to my next prompt.

I'm not sure if the Plucko died naturally, it did last for a while in the tank, but I found its' bones completely picked clean at the bottom of the aquarium and my neon fish were missing too and the Angel Fish was the only on left in the tank. I guess I should have done my research first. Another happy accident was we bought live plants and put them in the aquarium to find it had snail eggs on them. Lots of babies!!

• What do you think mermaids would be like if they were real?

I don't think they'd be all that friendly to us with all the polluting of our waters that we have done. I think they would be very illusive creatures to protect themselves and probably would work with Sirens to keep us off of the seas and oceans. I'm sure both Sirens and Mermaids would think we are hideous creatures and should stay out of their domains.

A tip for keeping a fish tank: SNAILS! They eat the algae that would otherwise gunk up the glass and all the decorations. And they’re so cute when you can see their underbelly through the glass 😊

What would mermaids be like? TERRIFYING. And nothing like the common idea of a beautiful mermaid with flowing hair. They would probably have skin like a shark, which I’ve heard is very sandpapery, a pointy head to make them aerodynamic, and they would need to come up for air unless their top half was the fish in which case that’s even moreeee terrifying!

Favorite sea creature, real or imaginary: I really love the deep sea monster fantasy, like you go so far down that there’s a ginormous monster that is beyond comprehension. The ocean is a mysterious place!

Share any tips you have for fish/aquarium care!

I was a fish keeper for many years and I hope to keep them again in the future! One tip I have for future fish keepers is to consider fishless cycling before buying fish. Fish waste produces ammonia which is harmful to fish. In a normal, healthy environment, there is beneficial bacteria that breaks down ammonia into nitrites and then nitrates. In a new fish tank, the beneficial bacteria does not yet exist, so this process is very slow - which subjects the inhabitants to higher levels of ammonia/nitrites than they ought to be exposed to. You can do a fishless cycling of the water by using ammonia before introducing fish. There are also beneficial bacteria products that you can buy to add to your tank to speed up the process. Definitely consider this method to keep your fish healthy from start to finish!

This isn't exactly what you had in mind with the question, I'm sure! When I was three years old, I went to Toledo Bend with my family. My mother was fishing off a dock and I was hanging out with her. There was this wooden structure that housed something (it was enclosed), and I stupidly tried climbing the wall. There was nothing to grip and I fell in the swampy water!!! I didn't know how to swim. My mother dived in and had to pull me from barbed wire beneath the water. This is a man-made lake, so there is all sorts of debris at the bottom.

My favorite animal is the hippo! They are such amazing creatures. Have you seen how quickly they can travel in the water?! They're massive and they just haul butt! They are also known as the world's deadliest land animal! Fascinating!
