If you put a forest of trees in and around your town, does that mean the weather can be rain, snow, sleet, and hail in all four seasons? Everyday... Once a week...
Because my mind is set on building a town that has SO MANY trees it could be a second rainforest. no pavement streets and concrete sidewalks. Dirt and grass all the way.
Just wondering about Geography/Weather.
I can't say much about the weather, but a question did cross my mind.
If your town is so full of trees that it could be a second rainforest, what are your buildings like? Is there enough room to comfortably move around? If not, what do the townsfolk do to compensate?
Okay, that might have been a dramatic part xD Maybe a little bit more "old fashioned" probably would have been better. Before black tar pavements started paving the world. And a place where there is 5 to 10 trees in yards. Maybe even a lot of treehouses.
Captain Planet and the Planeteers is in my head on the whole clean earth thing. No deforestation.
Gotcha, that makes sense! My head definitely went to the extreme.
You did help though :) So thanks. I understand those websites a little better now. About using real locations for a fictional setup. I look out my own home and think how the streets could be dirt, sidewalks be lines of trees & bushes. Few flower clumps.
I definitely tend to lean towards simpler settings when I write as well. No asphalt, no parking lots, more farm land, etc. There's something about it that adds a certain coziness.
Trees are dictated by the weather, not the other way round. However, a person's experience of the weather can be affected by their environment.
For instance, my experience of rain in an apartment complex with no trees close is... just rain. But when I was living in the country, I got caught out in our little grove of trees during a rain event a few times. They would protect me some when I was directly under them but they also collect the water, much like a giant umbrella, and when the water droplets would fall they tended to be big and slow and they would splat down on my head without hurting.
Also, the weather where I live is temperate and temperamental. (I live in the South of the US.) In our winter, we can have days were it starts out rain (cold rain) because the temperatures aren't quite cold enough for it to freeze, then we have freezing rain as the temperatures drop, and snow once the temperature has dropped far enough. We can also get sleet instead of freezing rain if the temperature in the upper atmosphere is cold enough to freeze the rain as it falls, but it's usually one or the other, freezing rain or sleet.
What you are describing kinda makes me think of the Hoh Rainforest in Washington state. It is very different from the Amazon rainforest, but it is a rainforest none the less.
Yep, was gonna mention was Galaxy mentioned! The temperate rainforests up here in Washington would probably be a great reference. They used to go all the way to Alaska, but are much smaller due to all the urbanization in the state.
Olympic National Park and its rainforests would be great reference and might be worth researching and looking into. The rainforests themselves don't see that much snow - winter is our rainy season in Washington. While snow can happen in the rainforest, it's pretty rare. The park itself and surrounding area has varied geography though! There are several mountains and ridges that are high enough up to get snow in the winter. In contrast, summer actually doesn't see that much rain in the rainforests but they do get some fog at night to keep things moist.
as princess and galaxy mentioned, it's all to do with the changes in weather; you could potentially have microclimates in ur fantasy world, however, it's your story and you can make up what u want! I'd do research into how they work though because I'm no expert on them x3
