The option: "Allows you to change a pet of your choosing into any color available on the site. " Means:

1. If you have, say, a telenine, you can only paint it, in telenine available colours
2. If you have, say, a telenine again, you can transforms it into a whatever pet and whatever colour, including, the experiments ante the experiments colours.

The first one. Experiments are a separate pet species, and the totem doesn't change the pet's species at all. You would have to turn your pet into whatever species you want it to be and then you could use the totem to change its color (for example, using a telenine elixir and then using the totem to make it angelic)
