Subeta was focused on pets for its start and the bulk of its early years. Avatars were a shift, so I think calling it a Human Avatar helped distinguish it from the majority of other featurse that werepet focused.

At least thats how I started calling it HA and never stopped :p.

A very long time ago, Subeta used to have "secret avatars" that were just little square badges you could earn like the ones on Neo. I guess when they introduced the wardrobe system, they called your dress-up figure a "human avatar" to distinguish it from the old avatar system.

It kinda bugs me though too, as someone whose avatar is frequently not human. 👽

I went poking around and I'm surprised at how little evidence of these things ever existing I could find. These are the only images that turned up for me and this definitely isn't all of them. I also found the 2006 news post that announced their retirement (apparently you could redeem them for sP). Kind of interesting to read the comments now. This all predates my time here by a couple years...

I knew that subeta had some sort of icon avatars before the wardrobe / human avatar system, but I had no idea that they were so much like neopets secret avatars! I've never seen these images before, thanks for linking them. That's so cool. :D

There was also a point at which we could upload our own avatars as long as they fit within the pixel parameters. I remember making and uploading one right before we began switching over into human avatars, and at first I disliked the change. Now its become my second-biggest investment on the site lol.

I know, I had to do a double-take to make sure those weren't Neopet avatars before I posted them, they look just like them. I even expected that text one to say "Your Lupe a-splode" or whatever haha

Oh wow...I really enjoy the wardrobe but it would have been neat to be able to upload your own custom avatar. Had no idea that was ever a thing here. Reminds me of LiveJournal and the ridiculous number of custom avatars I had on there lol
