I've been in a funk for the last few months, and seeing some creativity is just the sort of thing that I need to kickstart my investment in the site again. So! A little fun for all. [P]
I'll be back with my HA. Thanks for hosting the contest and I hope it helps in inspiring you to get out of your funk. ^_^
I know you will be interested in this.

Elondir is a dark elf that works for a secret elven order. The Elven Kingdom has been at war with the human king of the north for over 50 years. Elondir and the rest of his agents of darkness have been studying dark magic in the forbidden library under an abandoned elven citadel. The dark magic is technology from a very old regime, an ancient city forgotten in time. The elven king has forbidden use of this long lost technology and has disavowed all those that would use it. The secret order however believe that the dark magic could finally put an end to the war. Elondir and his dark agents work in the shadows, assassins in the night, to put an end to the human king and his army of slaves.
by Merlot Zalia is a Tiefling Artificer/Alchemist and is mostly in her workroom coming up with different potions and gadgets infused with magic that she feels will help better the community she lives in. She built a homunculus as a servant to help around the workstation, but eventually "Harold", yes she named him, became a friend instead. When she is outside of her workroom, she can be found inspecting anything that has a cog, spring, hinge, etc, to see how it was put together. The glove she wears on her hand and arm is like a multi tool for when she or someone needs something fixed or gotten into. It also helps heal small cuts and scratches from the magic she has infused within it. Zalia is constantly off seeking more knowledge to aid in what she knows already and is known to leave the community for periods of time, be it a few days or even weeks to gather information and learn from the groups she encounters outside of the community. One day she wants to go into the bigger cities to work with the more experienced Artificer guilds, but she knows it will take awhile before she can go and present herself to them.

The orc had been minding his own business, hunting treasure in some old ruins when a group of smarmy humans had ambushed him. He'd been barely conscious when he managed to clobber the last of them. Before he could catch his breath, he heard more beings coming and stumbled away without waiting to find out if they were friend or foe. He found a strange door, managed to fumble it open, fall through and passed out.
Waking hours later, he carefully listened at the door behind him and hearing nothing quietly pulled it open. The idyllic meadow he saw bore no resemblance to the ruins he'd been plundering. He closed the door and thoughtfully examined his surroundings. It was a huge towering staircase, he could see neither top or bottom, only stairs and doors. But they weren't normal stairs, some seemed upside down, some went sideways and the doors were all different too. He checked some nearby doors, but none led to his ruins.
He spent many years exploring the stairs and doors. He found wonder upon wonder, picked up a friend or two and a little bit of treasure. He never found his original home, and eventually stopped looking, instead he hoped to one day find a new place to settle down and spend the riches he'd accumulated in his adventures.

Did someone say owl-people?! Stolasby ChatLunatique Stolos is a demoniac astrologer who uses powerful telescopes and "black" magic to predict and possibly alter the course of future events. Once discredited by "science", the discovery of cosmic and interdimensional correspondence in the multiverses has brought the study of stellar influence back into the forefront of the magical sciences. Now that dimensional beings, once known as Demons, are no longer vilified by misinformed theologians, Stolos works openly to better the many universes by going beyond the basic genethlialogy of natal charts and horoscopes to study the influence of deep space on fate.
Your entry just needs some info on how they fit into their setting please :)
whoops! I'll edit that in.... done!
by smolls Firearms are a fairly new technology, and one she is fascinated by. The little elf is especially fascinated by what they can do to mix magic in with the sheer power behind the little things - you squeeze your little finger and watch what happens meters ahead of you, you practice your aim and see as it hits the mark. But what if the ammunition was imbued with magic? Ice, fire, gravity-based, temporal... imagine the effects. She seeks more information, the advancements others make that she herself cannot, and prays to her goddess for forgiveness and for inspiration, so that someday she might be the next to continue the craft. She travels, she finds work where she can - mercenary, mostly - and follows where this strange new device will lead.
Digging the entries so far :) Keep it coming folks!

Looks like we have a decent handful of entries given how broad the subject was, so I'm going to cut the deadline down to tomorrow night should anyone else decide to pop in at the last moment. Judging will follow and winners announced by the 16th.
[box=#E599EC] Thistlebelle Brickguard was always see as a bit too eccentric by the other dwarves. Mostly, they just ignored her and let her fiddle and tinker in the glowing mushroom caves. She wasn’t doing any harm and she tried to be helpful. Eventually, her tinkering did come in handy. Using the magic that was found in those caves, she started creating things to make their lives easier — lanterns that glowed and never ran out, floating lights shaped like butterflies that would create paths through dark caves. She kept the mushrooms with her, wearing them in her clothes, and finding a way to funnel their magic into a powerful staff. Thistle has continued to use her knowledge to creating things that made the lives of her community easier. [/box]
by Elysium Thank you all for your entries! Here to provide judgment is the only grudging dwarf I could acquire on short notice, Vadhra, and his autonomous pet. He may be surly given I interrupted his lunch preparations. I will naturally be translating his gruff decisions into common tongue. Yes, yes, grumble all you like sir, you did agree. That one? Ah, yes, I agree. And them too? I see. Naturally enemies, but you do have to admit their good taste. And finally whom? Well, that does feel a little biased, but fine.
Okay, so first off? Fantastic design. Like you really created an orc, I never knew it was THAT skin until I started picking the pieces apart and then I was floored. I love this dude. You provided a fun and great story for him too.
Great dark elf. You blended the two ideas of a fantasy society with technological immersion perfectly. That the elven king recognizes how dangerous the lost arts are yet your assassin's group is determined to wield it regardless of the personal costs tells a delightful tale.
So first and foremost, beautiful design. You really put her together from scratch and I am a sucker for great features. You used some strong layering and put together a modern touch on the theme, which is just fine. The narrative is decisive and efficient.
Congratulations! I'll inbox y'all shortly and prizes will roll out by tomorrow. Thank you again for entering!
Hera is a fine warrior queen. Echo has crafted quite the efficient illusion with that backdrop, and the layering of your face, as well as that helmet with the additional spikes, is crafty.
Zalia is a lovely design. I like that you made her specialize as an alchemist and artificer, and Harold serves to satisfy the urge to see her magic brought out given the purple glow emitted from the little homunculus.
Congratulations! I'll inbox y'all shortly and prizes will roll out by tomorrow. Thank you again for entering!
smolls, a fetching elf lady, with her raven allies perhaps serving as harbingers for the deadly weapon she is discovering the limits of. I think the navy blue is a touch out of place against the rest of the scene however. Thank you for entering.
ChatLunatique, so first off kudos for making an owl entry! Hype and I hope more people catch on. Making them a demonic being is an interesting direction. I do feel like the crown was more of a distraction, and maybe there were some better fitting bird customs and even official items you could have used to present a tighter final design. But on the whole I liked this one, it was just edged out by some stronger entries. Thank you for entering.
Thank you! I love the wardrobe so much, you can make just about anything! LOL I got a little carried away with the story - wanting to write about him finding his little mouse buddy, acquiring his BFG and all the mundane and magical wonders he found behind those doors.
If I ever get around to it, might be fun to make a pet who meets him when he stumbles onto the door to Subeta.

Thanks for picking my entry! It was actually a really difficult contest. Coming up with a fantasy creature wasn't difficult, but the challenge comes from adding technology to the look. Everyone did such an amazing job.
