I really hope I'm not just missing where someone has talked about this, but is there a specific time when you can complete a quest for Merana or is is always random? I'm thinking of making my Blob Hydrus, but I'm not sure when I should be checking or if I should just check whenever.

Merana appears randomly on the World Map Page you could either stalk the page or join the ping group to be notified when she appear

According to the FAQ on the Merana Ping Group: Merana's supposed to appear for 12 hours at a time, randomly.

You can do her quests for hydrus during this time. If you start a quest and don't finish it, and she disappears, the quest is canceled for you (so, you won't be on that same quest when she appears again).
