It's both hard to believe I've been here for 15 years and also not hard to believe at all. Thank you, Subeta, for so many years of enjoyment. It's wild to think my IRL bestie (who is now my roommate!) introduced me to Subeta when we were in sixth grade, and now here I am in grad school still playing!
It's fun to think back through the different phases of my playing priorities...the site has so much to offer, whenever I outgrow one element there's always another that beckons me. Way back in middle school I was definitely here for HAs and was constantly posting on HA games and "Rate My Avatar"... I remember saving up my first 1mil to hold my own HA contest with that 1mil as the grand prize. I made pets based on the boys I liked and initially assumed Subeta was like Neopets and I'd have to use a lot of numbers to get any name I wanted...also, capitalizing every other letter was a thing...I believe my pet preteen was originally m1sSyHuNt1nGtOn, lolol. And remember when you could get a warning for making a board post in all caps? That's not still a thing, right? Haha.
As I moved into high school, I got a little, ahem, too comfortable on the boards and posted some pretty "cringey" things, one of which got screenshotted and put on SubetaDrama (omg remember...?). In retrospect, it was a little weird that I got roasted on a different website by adults because I was like 14, but it was a different time on the internet. Around this time was also the heydey of Style-File and I remember a huge milestone for me was THE (old?) whose HAs graced the landing page of Subeta for so many years commenting that she liked the juxtaposition of two patterns I used. I remember IMing immediately so excited. I was studying abroad in China at the time. I continued to make pets based on boys I liked.
By the time I was in college I was obsessed with restocking and price "fixing". Though very adverse to capitalism IRL, I found it fun to try to manipulate the market price of several items on Subeta and would routinely purchase dozens if not hundreds of an item to inflate the price. Before the was unretired, I briefly had a monopoly of purchasable copies and now that it is unretired, I just have a giant stockpile of tanktops! But that's the risk you take! I did successfully keep pretty expensive but I forgot to consider the fact that nobody wants it because the art is outdated, lol. But the process has always been fun. At that time, I started making pets based on my friends and celebrities. Just looking at these I'm realizing all of my pet profile codes are messed up now, whoops. Another project! Add it to the list! In this era who can forget the Battle of the Bands...? I remember finding some other folks on the boards and we thought we might have to actually record music for the contest, lol! We ended up making it to the finals but lost to the legendary Horns and Roses (now of highly-sought-after fame). That was such a fun event though in summer 2014! I was living in Seattle with my boyfriend at the time. I was waitressing and he worked the graveyard shift at the Amazon fulfillment center - I would play Subeta from 11PM-4AM during his shift while waiting up for him. What a time.
To finish out my history on Subeta, we find the recent past - enjoying events, mostly, while hoarding sP. Restocking from Weapons Warehouse is fun. Perhaps someday I'll get into battling. I make pets based on my D&D characters and reminisce with about how the first time I tried roleplaying it was here on Subeta.
I'll end this with a brief shout-out to some users who, even if we've never talked (or it's just been many, many years), I just want to say - I see you! I've seen you! Thanks for sticking around, too! It's nice to see familiar 'faces' on Subeta after all this time.
Thanks of course to all the staff for keeping this site up for so long. I feel very lucky to be here.
Whoa - congrats on 15 years! This post was a ride and time capsule lol
Wow! Congrats on 15 years!! I don't recall the drama (I really tried to stay away from it as much as possible), but the other things I do remember :) Thanks for the trip down memory lane ❤
Congrats on 15 years!
So you're in grad school...what's that like?
I also see you're a Pokemon fan and like DnD! I've never played but enjoy hearing DnD stories on Youtube. I even made a pet based on those stories, Umpteen.

thanks everyone! c:
grad school is pretty great so far! I'm studying education with an emphasis on equity & social justice and have learned so much! omg Umpteen's profile is so cute, nice work! you should try playing D&D, if you like watching people play I'm sure you'd have fun with it. it's a great exercise in collaborative storytelling.
Yay 15 years !! That is so exciting and such an accomplishment :) ❤
