Today I realized what a doofus I’ve been. I’ve been pronouncing Subeautique in my head as sue-bay-uh-teek pretty much since this shop opened. Today I finally took a hard look at it and realized that it’s obviously sue-bow-teek. 🤦♀️
What’s something silly you’ve discovered you were saying/reading/doing incorrectly after an uncomfortably long time?

Ahh, this reminds me of my Morostide pronunciation struggles. 😂 For ages, I waffled about how to pronounce it (moro-stide, moro-steed, morost-ide, etc.) until realizing ... Morose + Tide (like yuletide) ... Morose-Tide. It's that simple and I was overcomplicating it for years. 😭 I mean, I could still be wrong, but Morose-tide makes a whole lot more logical sense than Moro-steed. :')
I've accepted the fact that I pronounce everything wrong.
Yea I'm with here, I tend to just pronounce a lot of stuff wrong. I learned in my teens that I tend to mumble certain things and also just straight up pronounce words how they first appear in my head. It's a wonder why starbucks also thinks my name is Ember and not Amber, go fig lol
I've always had an issue with pronunciation. I was reading at an adult level when I was seven, but none of those words would be spoken on the playground, or even by the adults around me. The meaning was generally easy enough to figure out through context, and on rare occasions I would look them up in the dictionary. No one could explain the weird text accents and stuff that represented pronunciation in the dictionary, so I was at a loss for that.
I went to a French school growing up and in French class, they taught us rules to pronounce new words. Our English class didn't get that lesson, not quite sure why. So, I used modified French rules to "learn" to pronounce new English words. LOL it doesn't usually work out! So I've spent most of my life mispronouncing stuff.
Now, encountering words based on yet another language (like Subeta), or portmanteau words, I'm completely lost! I don't even try, just make stuff up so I can identify it myself and don't talk about it to others, or use general terms when I do.
Subeautique I always pronounced sue-bow-teek - because that's actually based on a French word so my tricks for new words works for that! Morostide however, I pronounce moro-stide, but morose-tide actually sounds way better :D

Wow…I have been pronouncing it “soo-bee ay-you-tee-cue” and “moe-rows-tid’-ee’ . I guess it’s the German in me.
.<
I always thought it was Mortoside.....
I've been here so long that i still pronounce most things like i did pre-english fluency, so it's soo bah teak in my head
I pronounce it “soo-boo-teek” and I don’t think that’ll ever change 😅 I also tend to just abbreviate it to “subq,” I know that used to be common shorthand a decade ago but I haven’t seen it used as often since returning a few years ago!
