In an effort to cut down on number of refreshes and generally streamline the user experience and performance , we're going to start deleting inactive threads in the main Advertising plus r200 and Wanted subforums. Giveaways, having less total threads and, being a record of the kindness of Subetans, is exempt for now but we will notify you if that changes. Forum threads in the main Advertising plus r200 and Wanted subforums that have not had a new post in six months will be deleted starting 12:01am Subeta time on 2021 November 24th. The plan past that is to check each month and prune to that same specification (not been posted on in six months) as needed. Thank you!

Thank you for the info!!
I am not old. I am gracefully aged
This is smart, thanks for the heads up and I hope it helps!
Thank you for letting us know :D It is so refreshing to have a subeta player linked between the players and the staff. You are a breath of fresh air to beta <3
If this fixes the 2+ year issue, I'm all for it! It's an interesting work around and might be bothersome for researching the prices of older items, however I look forward to getting into advertising the first time I try <3
Thumbs up on streamlining the site. I was on a board this morning and found myself on a post from 2017. That is way too long to save a post.

Okay, so it's just the advertising forums? I saw the title in the ping and thought at first that it would be all forums and got a bit worried.
But if this will help cut down on unnecessary data and make loading things easier, then that would be fine I think. Thanks for the update!
Ok, thank you for letting us know. :)
However, what about things like useful threads that haven't been posted on but are still useful ?
I love that this is only Advertising for now! I was also worried when I saw the ping that useful old threads would be deleted. That shouldn't include any old Advertising threads, though. Thanks!
Those will likely have posts or on them or be pinned. To clarify, it is specifically for the Advertising forum! We're just taking aim at, like, page 1499 from 2009 or a post that's sat there since 2015 without any replies. If someone hasn't found their item by now, or sold it, I'm pretty sure they'd need a new thread anyway. :p

I'm kinda confused what the benefit of this is? Is it something that is expected to speed up the forums? I don't see how it prevents refreshes or streamlines user experience, since I doubt 99.9% of people look past the first page of ads, since even the first page gets threads over a month old.
The downside to deleting old threads is mostly for price checking. It's usually somewhat rare for me to go back to ad threads since it usually requires me to have remembered someone specifically selling an item since there isn't an easy search feature. But if there is an item I know sold in the last 2 years, I'll sometimes go digging for the thread.
If it's expected to improve site/forum performance significantly, then I'm happy to take the hit for the team and lose that data since I'm probably one of if not the only people that still uses it. However, if it is more to "cut down on number of refreshes and generally streamline the user experience" I'm not really seeing the benefit there and I think you should reconsider.

This is awesome news, in my opinion ^0^ The forums need a clean up, big time! Thank you for updating us <3
We do understand! We'd like to be able to keep more old threads, but right now it can sometimes take several refreshes to get more than a blank white page loaded. We should be able to re-assess later and maybe change the timeframe, but without this step the Advertising forum is having performance problems and it would only get worse and not better.

thanks for the post, i think that's good. many forget to tell when their request is done, that the thread can be closed

I think that this is a good idea. As stated,
If it is not utilized it should be flushed to help the servers.
I'm stoked!!
Also w/ the whole "but why" thing, these thread and posts also take up space on servers. idk how much but either way it's like adding weight onto an already large pile essentially. so having that weight removed when no longer in use is helpful to ease up on the servers.
maybe also consider this for like adoption center? similar concept: 6+ months, pet(s) either gone or kept or whatever.
