Heya so I'm a recent addition to Subeta, came running from Neopets once the whole NFT shenanigans got unfortunately confirmed as true, and I had a Neofic of my own I had been writing for a while, and didn't want to give up because I left the site so I'm still writing. This Neofic is basically a story involving all of my NeoOCs and even some outsiders, and boy do I have a problem with pacing. I am not here to ask for advice, but more like, vent over the fact that what was supposed to be a side story to fill one chapter has now almost the same word count as the rest of the fic, as in, the chapter so far has 39k while the rest of the writing has 49k. 😅😅 And worse, this chapter was written in the past month or so, while the rest of the fic I've been writing on and off for like, about 4 years? Thing is, I can't move on until I finish this side story, it had been in my mind for a long while, but heck if it isn't taking everything out of me. I also was trying to ponder where to host this, I mean sure I have my AO3 account, but like, at least on Neo I had it on a couple of petpages, and there were some visual and other types of components to the story that were part of the project, like how this chapter of heck was on a side petpage with a background gif that was related to the story... And there's no platform like the petpages, unless I get myself a domain of my own, but then, getting a domain to post a Neopets fic is sort of... IDK overkill hahaha

Update: this whole fic is reaching 93k q~q Heck chapter IS going to be 50k I am guessing, as I still have a couple of events to run through in the story. At least I can see the end approaching quickly, but this is so exasperatingly large holy heck I have never written so much in such a short duration of time.

Final update: Okay so the final word count of the chapter was 47k. I am literally drained, I have to catch up on life now, but at least the evil has been exorcised. I am never writing something as long as that in one go ever again.

I can feel the struggle you're going through. I had a k-pop fanfic on my drafts and was going to finish writing it last year, but I dropped the group that inspired me to write it (both musically and character-wise), and welp. I don't quite know what to tell you, except -- maybe let it rest? Sometimes it's best to take some distance and some time from writing a piece since you can loop yourself into madness without knowing. Or maybe try to get a beta to read it and tell you specific points of your story so you can vent with them? Heheh sounds easier than it is, I know that... Good luck on your job. I know you'll make it! Just be patient~ and don't stress much on it, be kind to your mind and creativity. You're already doing so much!

I just love stories that are supposed to be short and then decide that they want to be much longer than expected. I have an OC Rin that was supposed to be the main character of a fic that I wouldn't put too much effort into writing. Then she decided she wanted a series of two fics that, combined, equaled over 500k words. Plus a sequel series that keeps getting delayed but I am going to finish it one day even if it kills me O.O'

oh thank you, I mean, I did finish the chapter, and I guess people seemed interested as my fic got quite the views as of recently, but that may also be because it's one of the few Neopets fics with almost 100k words. My issue was more of an issue with not being able to stop writing, it was like I was possessed by the idea of the chapter gone wild... And the story did end up having pacing issues, but I am fine with it, at least I got it all out. I can finally move onto the next part of the story, or at least I can write more before returning to those sets of characters.

oh dang, 500k!? o_o That's A LOT. But yeah I totally get the thing with suddenly characters taking over your creativity and demanding you focus on them for so long. I actually am dealing with that with the villain of that chapter of heck, who is a recurring villain in many of my stories for meta and in-universe reasons. Not only she dominates the 47k of the writing, and is actually fated to return in the future in this Neopets fic, as she interacts with the in-story characters and the audience to some degree, I also drew an extra chapter to my comic with a snippet of her background, and have drawn multiple complicated art pieces featuring her, including one I am coloring right now. It's gotten to the point I can't listen to certain songs without thinking about her.
