The internet is increasingly moving to using mp4s (those gifs with a progress bar and possibly sound) instead of gifs and it would be nice to be able to put those directly into our forum posts, comments and sMail. Being able to embed (youtube) videos in forum posts etc. would also be nice.

Unless there was a way to make sure none of it autoplayed, this would be a nightmare. Especially without warning of strobe effects. Can just imagine people making post your song or whatever boards and to have a ton of these posted and then autoplayed is an auditory experience I would like to avoid.

Shure, that seems fair.

Subeta already has a youtube video autoplay toggle (for the videos on profiles) on the user preferences page so that one could probably be epanded (if it even needs to be, maybe it already applies site wide) to apply to videos posted on the forums as well . Gifs are currently usable on site however they do autoplay, and there's no toggle for them (but it would be nice to have one if possible). As for mp4s, I am no HTML expert by any means but a cursory google seems to imply their autoplay can be influenced from the webdev side (tho, I don't know if it could be applied to user posted mp4s) and I have seen on sites like imgur and giphy that at least audio autoplay of mp4s can be influenced.

For smails and comments sure because those are targeted. I often forget if my phone is on mute and therefore to browse the forums which I do regularly and to have random audio play I just would hate it. If we can toggle autoplay sure, if we can't then it is a hard pass for me on the forums. In terms of like gifs, yeah they autoplay and people are usually kind with warnings. I was ultimately more concerned with music videos and a good portion of those tend to give me migraines with how flashy they are.

This would be a dream coming true, but I hardly see any old sites implementing this feature for some reason. It is very possible to disable auto-play and avoid any unexpected incidents as I see many other sites with this feature using that.

I'd love to put song players on my pet's profiles since most of my characters are inspired by songs. Full wholehearted support.

I don't like that every social media site is turning into a row of videos with audio. Its a nightmare for many people with certain disabilities as well as those who just plain don't like videos.

If you want to share a video, audio clip, or song that badly you can just link to it. No one needs to be forced to watch your videos or hear the audio/music you like just because you want them to.

I don't see how this would be in any way beneficial to Subeta or improve the site in any meaningful way. No support.

No support for embedding YouTube videos in forum posts. Pet profiles would be OK, though.

PS: If people want to share music videos they could have a topic in the Entertainment/Music forum. They can then give information about the videos such as genre and warn of things like flashing lights.

i'm not against the ability to embed (non-autoplaying) video/audio files in forum posts or private messages; embedding them on pet profiles would be the ideal usage imo, but that's never been an option due to security concerns, so i doubt that would change.

but, just in general, i'm not a fan of this web 2.0 gifv webp business. if something appears to be an image (static or animated), i want it to be an actual image file that i can drag onto my desktop and open in a file viewer. (supposedly the webp thing isn't 100% in subeta's control, but i'm not sure why that's the case if they can control other alternate file types.)

Hosting videos would eat a significant portion of the bandwidth the site already does not have. Lag is already bad enough. No support.

As someone who very much dislikes videos being everywhere I just don't see how this feature would be beneficial. If it had autoplay I would be 100% opposed to it and would do what I could to block it on my end, though I'd probably also request it be removed.

The rest of the internet is overflowing with painfully unfunny Tiktoks, flashing lights, noise and way too much going on in general. Gifs in people's signatures are bad enough and I use an adblocker to block most of them. I'd hate to be browsing forums, pet profiles, etc. and suddenly find myself aurally assaulted by someone else's idea of a good song. It's like when you're on break at work and you're stuck with a coworker who has decided that everyone wants to hear the stupid videos they're watching.

I kind of see sites like Subeta as one of the last refuges from content overload, hence my harsher response to this suggestion.

If there's a video that you feel fits your pet or whatever just link it.

I will love you forever if you trade me:

No. Please no. I don't mind gifs in signatures as long as they are small and silent. But sound-files of any sort would make browsing the forums too stressful for words. Not only that , but MP4s EAT bandwidth like a passel of hogs, and the forums are already having a problem keeping up.
Maybe on pet pages they'd be alright in moderation, perhaps with a Mb weight cap, but otherwise..., please don't.

Nope. Given the abuse of autoplay on here on profiles once upon a time, no. Absolutely not. No, thank you.

No, unless the videos were default turned off and had to be toggled on. When the youtube feature was first added to user profiles, they were default autoplayed on until it got to the point that users complained and eventually the ability to toggle them on and off, as well as them being default off, was added.

I don't like the idea of a random video or music suddenly being so front and center every single time I visit the forums personally so unless there was the ability to have them just not play by default or an ability to toggle them on and off; I'm personally pretty vehemently opposed to this idea.

I can also imagine since the forums have had issues loading in the past that having a bunch of videos or mp4s loading at once from various users turning them on and off in the forums would slow down the forums a ton, so in that respect, I also don't want a feature like this on the forums for that reason too.

i can just imagine now, all of the rick rolls and the super idols best to keep that to twitter? plus, the forums are slow enough as it is, in lag and in population, that the idea would be a waste of time to implement that's a no from me
