Hi, I'm just getting started in battling, is there an easy way for me to tell which weapons I should be using? I see that they have tiers, are there different stats within a tier? Is there any bonus to using weapons designed for the species you're fighting with? Is there a good way to buy/earn better weapons? Thanks

Hi! Glad to see a fresh battler joining the community.

Try checking this thread for weapon advice by tier. Tiers are determined by the four core stats(Health, Strength, Defense, Speed) that your pet has. You can find out more about how each tier is based along with a whole host of other explanations in the official in-depth guide, but starting off you will be in Tier 1, which is 40-299 core stats. Tier 2 is 300-599, Tier 3 is 600-1199. A lot of the enemies that you can fight and defeat right now will drop stat boosting eggs, so make sure to use them on your preferred battle pet.

Supposedly there are minor bonuses to using species related weaponry but I myself have never experimented to determine that. As your pet grows more powerful and can defeat more foes, you can unlock better weapons from the loot that is dropped. And we occasionally have a battle related plot, such as the Gelatin Invasion that recurs every year or two and the top damaging pets per tier can earn nifty rewards. But generally speaking you will just have to save up a lot of pure sP or Cash Shop Credits to buy or trade for better weapons and scrolls.

Have you heard about scrolls yet? They can only be used if your battle pet has enough Alchemy Points to meet the scroll's AP cost, and you gain 1 alchemy point per 16 intelligence or so that your battle pet has, so reading them a lot of books early on can be helpful but at some point you will want to reserve books for intelligence boosting, so that you can earn a lot of AP at one time. We'll cover that later if you'd like.
