I was wondering...

You can put other pets as 'friends' of your pet. It doesn't show up on the other pet's profile or anything and isn't acknowledged in any way unless one visits your pet and sees this 'friendship'. So here's my question...

Is it ...against social etiquette (I guess that's it?) to put a pet as your pet's friend without asking the owner of that pet? Is it okay to do this?

Yes you would need their permission

i don't think you NEED to ask them, but i think it would be the polite way to go about it.

the way I look at it is, if you want to add another pet as a friend on the basis of name only, no holds barred. But if you like another pet's character and think that character would be a good friend to your pet's character, then I would ask.

Example, I had a pet named Bill Kaulitz (lead singer of Tokio Hotel). I added all the pets whose names were other related tributes (Tom Kaulitz, Tokio etc.) I didn't ask permission just assumed the owners would not mind.

Example 2, you have a pet named Billy Bob. Billy Bob has a longtime childhood friend named Fred. You add the pet Fred as a friend on Subeta to complement Billy Bob's profile, even though Subeta Fred has his own profile unrelated to yours. I don't think you need to ask permission for this, yes it's polite, but what if the person says no? I don't think there's any reason they should thus I wouldn't even give them an opportunity to.

Example 3, you see a pet you like named darbi. You like darbi's story and character, so while you're writing your own pet's story, you include darbi's name and OC persona in it, and link darbi as a friend. I think you should definitely not do this without asking! It could be seen as ret-conning someone else's pet's story.
