[SPOILER]hello ! not sure if this has been brought up recently (i didn't see it when i skimmed the latest threads in this board), but i would absolutely love if each color of pet had a unique pose, not just a specific few (nostalgic, glacier, storm, etc.)

i was looking at blob colors and LOVED how the different potions were represented. i would do pretty much anything - donating time, money, art, etc. to make this happen. i want arid pets to LOOK arid, i want lilac pets to have little flowers on them, and marsh pets to look like they just crawled out of a swamp - all with a unique pose like that of nightmare, angel, etc.

PROS

• drive up interest in 'generic pose' potions
• provide on-site jobs for artists
• provide more non-custom pet options for styling pet profiles
• further separate subeta from other pet websites that use static poses for multiple colors
• deepen the lore of the potions and colors on subeta
• allow for more color-focused collection

CONS

• art would have to be created from scratch and polished to subeta standards
• there would be significant capitol needed to convert all pet colors to unique poses
• removes standard poses and de-unifies the look of the different species (suggested by Sopheroo)
• would take away resources from special pose projects that are currently unfinished (suggested by Sopheroo)
• the time needed to complete this overhaul would be either much too long or much too expensive (suggested by Roadkill)

No support. First, people who choose to have Arid, Marsh, Cherry pets did so for a reason. They might not want their pet to be covered in flowers, dust or mud. Prior to the unique name change, I had a lot of recolor pets, and I chose to have them because they were all similar, it gave my profile a feeling of unity.

We can barely get new pet colors anymore - we only got one new pet (Nostalgic Urubu) and one revamp (Reborn Keeto) in 2021.

So, I'd rather have time spent on reposes that aren't anywhere near completed (so pretty much everything but Scribble) than create literally 14 other reposes.

Your solution is to get a custom overlay.

No support. We already have how many unique pose colors that have only half (if that) the species of pets with art for them? Recolors are good for those that enjoy the base pose but like a different color palette, if you want to add flowers or sparkles, or have a different pose, just get a custom overlay.

Subeta is already running on a piece of gum and prayer as it is, there is absolutely no possibility of them hiring even bare minimum 20+ artists to undertake this.

EDIT to show just how exponentially crazy this undertaking would be to even attempt:

I just looked it up, and not counting experiments/blobs there are 74 species on site. there are 15 "basic" colors not counting common.

that is one thousand, one hundred and ten unique posed art pieces that would need to be created we're already going an average of three months between one single pet release. at that rate, it would be 3,330 months, or 277 YEARS for this to happen.

just get a custom overlay.

keeping the base pose by choice - i can't argue that some people do prefer having the same pose for different colors. the solution for this, if it was changed, is the same that you suggest for the opposite: a custom overlay

focusing on uncompleted projects instead - i do agree that other species should be added to already-existing colors. since there are already base poses for colors such as cherry and lilac, the slow update would be less jarring and could happen slowly along with the adding of more pets to special pose colors

i don't want to be unrealistic about subeta's ability to hire the required artists for this project. i will definitely be adding this and the time needed to the CONS list. hopefully, subeta will be able to do something like this in the future, and even more so, i really hope that the site lasts at least the 277 years it would need to finish this project.

the push that both of you make towards customs ignores, in my opinion, the accessibility of cool and unique pets. not only would someone have to pay to change the overlay, they would have to spend time and/or money on getting a well-drawn picture that matches the exact style of subeta's art. this is definitely possible, and i'm happy that it's a part of the site, but it is challenging to say the least

personally, subeta first drew me in as a kid because of the cool pet poses. i'm definitely being overly-nostalgic and hopeful that something like this could be implemented in the future

A custom overlay doesn't have to match Subeta's art style the way an actual revamp would. Just look at some recent Spotlight winners for examples. There are some beautiful custom overlays, but not all of them are in Subeta's art style. You can also code an overlay onto your pet's profile that isn't custom and therefore doesn't cost anything (and there honestly might be some CSS out there that would replace your pet image elsewhere on the site, just without showing your overlay for everyone like a custom one would)

Colors that don't require repositioning the pet also leave the door open for more different pet colors to be released. As was already mentioned, new pet recolors seem to be few and far between and having to not only continue revamping outdated art that we already have but ALSO revamp over a dozen basic colors for every pet is just going to slow down releases in general and probably completely eliminate the chance of further recolors being added because the site will be playing pereptual catch-up

That's the thing though, aside from a very small handful of CSC potions/colours, there are dozens and dozens of options when you combine pets + the dynamic colour options (Bloodred, Chibi, Darkmatter, Glacier, Glade, Graveyard, Hydrus, Nightmare, Nostalgic, Reborn, Riftborn, Scribble, Steamwork, Storm, Sweetheart = no small amount). And they aren't all that difficult to get if you play the site actively. Even Angelic and Spectrum/Blacklight aren't inaccessible without cash, as they can be gotten via the zapper. So I'm not sure why accessibility to cool and unique pets seems to be an obstacle here because we already have so many available? If someone wants a truly unique pet they're going to get an overlay anyway. There's nothing wrong with having some more plain pet colours available to people. This seems like a lot of work to make a change that only some people would like.

i do love and recognize the variation in custom overlays ! however, i was replying specifically to these quotes responding to an official subeta release: "Recolors are good for those that enjoy the base pose but like a different color palette, if you want to add flowers or sparkles, or have a different pose, just get a custom overlay," and "Your solution is to get a custom overlay."

to get a custom that would replace my suggestion would imply the subeta style, which is more inaccessible.

the whole idea came from the variation in the blob pet. sure, there are plenty of awesome and available colors, but i don't think anyone would say that, given the chance, even more colors would be unwelcome. for example, the cream blob is adorable and i'd LOVE to see pets with whipped cream and perhaps butterscotch and chocolate chips on them

though it would be cool, the comments on this post have shown me the improbability of it. thank you all for the feedback ! i suppose i'll just have to draw some customs to get this feeling out (;^_^)
