Isn't there a way to convert lounge into steamwork trinkets and vice versa? I want to say there are trinket bags in both shops now. 🤔 That makes for easier bulk selling too.
[edit] Yep! Bottom of the page of the 2011 lounge shop, you can exchange lounge trinkets for steamwork trinket bags. And at the very bottom of the 2018 menagerie, you can exchange steamworks trinkets for lounge trinket bags.
You can buy an item that costs 1 lounge trinket, and then frag that. Theres a few in the 2010 tab.

That’s definitely a useful ability but doesn’t solve the ‘problem’ if you don’t actually want the trinkets. I could buy loads of steam works items but they don’t typically sell well in shops like most event items so they just sort of sit in my account.

There are some Lounge items that priced one to five trinkets that Quentin will ask for and they sell steadily at Quentin-quest-prices. This is more sP than the Humming Power Crystals are worth in sP.
As far as Steamworks items and the remaining Lounge items, not-selling-well is a matter of price. Lounge and Steamworks items are in some demand. Drop the price until they do sell, for more sP than the HPC would be worth if you bought those HPC from other users with sP. If you're considering fragmentizing them they're worth nearly nothing to you, so put them on-sale.
It is not necessary to buy Steamworks items (although many books do sell at greater than trinkets-to-buy-them prices). Bags of trinkets sell readily.
The smaller items sell well enough if priced under 50k sp. If they're below that cutoff, Quentin will ask for them for quests

I want to agree, if no one's buying them (Seriously I have about 5 Gold Bags on top of 600 banked) Steamworks Trinkets, I can't trade - not even sell, trade - them, and there's not enough users or new items to take them out of the economy...I can see why staff cares a little less than the influx of CSC, but it's a little at a stalemate.
The trinkets aren't in demand right now, because the event is going on, but they will grow to be more desirable as the year go on.
I mean, why would I buy your trinkets right now while I have a chance of getting 100 in one shot every 10 minutes?
Huh, I've had moderate success selling some of menagerie items all year around. I made an easy couple mill when masquerade started and I've had parts of the aristocrat sets sell all year. Some people would just rather buy them from a shop instead of looking for them the shop.
But in general, I would rather keep the currencies safe, and as much as I would enjoy the crystals, a sudden influx of crystals is probably something Staff would rather avoid.
