Hi everyone. I was looking to mess around a little bit with attempting to draw some CWs. I have an iPad and Apple Pencil, but not sure if there are any great apps or tutorials. If you have any thoughts, I would love to hear them!

I don't draw CWs (as you well know, lol), but I also have an iPad and Apple Pencil, so I've been keeping an eye out for any discussions about drawing apps on the iPad that could be used for creating CWs. So far, the ones that I've heard most commonly/recently about are Photoshop, Procreate, and Clip Studio Paint.

uses Photoshop (as she indicated here), in case you want to directly ask her about her opinion/experience. The app can become rather costly though: it's no longer a one-time fee, but a monthly subscription that you have to pay for. ;_; (But I suppose it's worth the money if you're planning to use it frequently)

Procreate was discussed in this thread, and has used it to create some official site clothing, too! And it's cheaper than Photoshop. But it sounds like the tricky thing is exporting: it seems like you can export the overlay as a .png without hassle, but you would need another program to export the item image as a .gif, apparently.

I haven't seen many people talk about Clip Studio Paint on here, but I know uses it--and her stuff is gorgeous! 😍 And it's also cheaper than Photoshop

In terms of tutorials, there's this one that did years ago regarding Subeta style, so it could be a good starting point. Besides that, there's this Google Drive that was linked in the CW Introduction thread that includes tutorials on lighting, hair, etc. (The videos by aren't viewable anymore, but the others still work.)

Hopefully someone who actually draws or has drawn CWs can give you better input soon!!!

Procreate is what I do the majority of mine in, illustration-wise!

In my experience, before submission, you will need access to some other software to do decent resizing/proper format saving. I generally use Photoshop for this 'final pass', but an iPad option is Affinity Photo & you could also use Gimp (free software) if you have access to a PC.

I have tentative plans to do some tutorials on how to use Procreate for CWs, but I couldn't give you a timeline for when they'd be finished.. OTL

If you have any specific requests for things you'd like to be included, or have a specific question about making CWs in Procreate in the meantime, don't hesitate to let me know!
