I'm truly hoping I'll be able to work from home permanently. I just wish my place was bigger, so I had a dedicated work space. Right now I have my work computer on my normal desk and switch between it and my personal computer each day. It works, but spending time on my personal computer doesn't always feel the same and I sit in the same seat for 14+ hours a day now x_x;
I was lucky enough that my work just happened to enter a could-be-remote stage right as the pandemic started. It's been a little rough since my home setup is kind of cramped and isn't super ergonomic (not to mention climate control and good insulation aren't really things in most housing where I live). I also live fairly close to a university, and the nearby student housing co-ops been cited for throwing parties a few times at this point; the joke in my household is that you can always tell when exam season has started because the nights get significantly quieter. There are some elements of my work that call for me to go in person, and getting time in the lab can quickly become huge quid-pro-quo games between people who all need to run experiments at the same time.
That said, the vast improvements in teleconferencing means not having to reschedule meetings because so-and-so is going to be traveling on business from days A-C, then right as they get back someone else will be traveling from days D-G.
Been VERY fortunate i was already working remotely for 10 years already ;p HashTag: Freelancer, haha People were making fun of me that i work from home - it didn't always meant a good thing, but pointed to online prostitution 😂 Nowadays, MANY people work from home because of the overall situation, though i see many who work in an office as well. I suggest keeping your own computer separate from the work one. Move with the work computer around the house if you have a separate kitchen and bedroom for instance. Tough working in the bedroom is not a good idea. Sometimes i just sit on the floor, at the desk, on the couch just to change the surroundings a bit. what i'd really want is a chair and a small table in the balcony, though my balcony is not really the type to have a sitting area :(
I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
I've really enjoyed working from home. I changed jobs during the pandemic, so I've never worked in person for my current company, even though one of the reasons I applied was because they were closer to my house!
But being able to have a hot, homemade lunch with my husband every day is a dream. My setup isn't the most convenient, since it takes up part of my living room, but it works fine and I don't mind it too much. It's much nicer in the summer, too, when we can spend more time outside.
My personal PC is on the floor underneath my work desk, though, and though I like sitting on the floor to game, I do wish it were a little farther apart sometimes.
I've been working from home for almost a year now and I've loved every second of it. I'm a fairly anxious person and my office is full of people that I don't mesh with well. My mental health is so much better AND I almost never have to see anyone. I have to go in twice a week but the office rotates so there's never more than 3 people in at a time. My boss says we're going to keep it going like this indefinitely and I am SO relieved :)
That's awesome! I'm just waiting for them to tell us this is permanent too. I'm hoping to move soon, so not having to worry about where I live in regards to work will be super nice.
I use to sit near my manager, and she loved to try and talk to me all day, even if I had headphones in -- nothing important, though, usually just personal things (aka to chat because she was bored).
So glad I don't have to worry about that anymore.
Your working situation sound super similar to mine! I also work in a lab and having to schedule when everyone is going to be in (down to the hour) so that we can stay under capacity is such a headache. Especially since everyone thinks their experiment is the priority. haha I'm starting to really miss the days when I could see and talk with all of my colleagues while we worked too.
You can go ahead and slap me because I'm the weirdo that wants to go back to the office and see people.

To be fair, it sounds like your line of work may require you to be in office, or at least make it easier!
I can completely do my job (more efficiently, even) from home, especially since the people I primary collaborate with didn't even work at our office to start with.
I do miss people a bit, but honestly, not really my co-workers I saw everyday. :P
I do prefer working remotely, but what I really love is not having to commute!

My last job went work from home in March 2020 and then by July they informed us we would permanently be work from home as they were closing the office. I honestly loved it and enjoyed working every day in my pjs (and taking naps at lunch time).
I moved in January 2021 and had to leave my job. I was so sad and am not looking forward to working out of home again.
Hopefully it'll be easy to find something remote, since I think it's going to be a lot more available now for more positions.
YES! Two years ago my fiance got into a car accident, and we rushed to replace the car since it was totaled.. so I didn't get to replace my car as planned, which I have no idea how it's still running. XD Not having to drive is saving me so much not only on gas, time, and sanity, but it's stretching how much longer my duct-tape tin can is going to last. ;P
I can't 'cause I work in healthcare. orz
At the beginning, they were like .. try working from home one day for remote appointments .. drove me bonkers so all the more kudos to y'all for making it work for you.
My company was in the process of shifting to remote working when the pandemic hit--it just sped up our timeline.
For me, it's been isolating, but there are good things. Like, the best part of working from home (okay, maybe hyperbolic, but a really nice thing) is when you do a load of laundry in the morning between tasks, right? And then on your lunch break you get a shower with a fluffy towel fresh from the dryer.

YESSSSS! I haven't done it nearly as much as I thought I would, since I usually get so engrossed in work.. xD but when you do, it's awesome. Or napping on lunch when not feeling well.
- napping during lunch happens a lot more often than I want to admit, haha. Sometimes you need to crash more than you need a meal, right?

For sure.. especially since you can usually get away with eating and snacking whenever. xD
For me, working remotely saved me a bunch of money in travel expenses since I don't drive and I have to use mass transit (multiple trains...gotta love NY :)) I still do some days remote and then go into the office, which doesn't make sense since everything I can do in the office, I can do at home...as long as my Internet is stable. We actually were capable of working remotely anyway since we have a VPN setup and our servers are cloud-based. It sometimes drives me nuts working from home, though: Boss calls me at 7:30pm to ask me a question. Really, dude? I told him I'd call him in the morning since I was about to eat dinner, for Pete's sake! For him, he lives less than 15 minutes from the office; me, I commute almost 3 hours every time I have to go into the office. Not fair to me:(
I have no idea how I feel about telework anymore 😭
My line of work requires a lot of in-meeting with people and I'm incredibly tired of Zoom meetings in general. It's really not the same feeling and it's rather difficult to prepare someone for an interview when I can't see their gestures properly. I do 2 days at the office for now and both days are filled to the brim with clients and I rarely get any breathers in between. A lot of my colleagues have quit in the span of a few months (even weeks) and we are mostly all overworked at this point. [Edit] I also work a lot of evenings now and I'm on call a lot. It's tiresome because I'm one of the only employee working evenings because I don't have kids. I'm slowly but surely starting to learn how to put boundaries and say 'no' to my boss.
I in Logistics and my position is work from home permanently. I feel very blessed because I love it so much
I only wish I could work remotely! I our internet is great and I absolutely loathe the commute to work and from - it isn't horribly long, but it is very busy! For a brief period at the beginning of the pandemic when everyone was all shelter in place, it actually was kind of pleasant. I will say a friend got me one of these CLICK And I admit, it is really nice to use on the couch or in bed (though as someone who doesn't work from home, this just means it is for my personal laptop). None of those bits are connected - the computer board sits on the cushion rails, so you can adjust how close together/wide they are within reason.
