so i did the subscription for the first time today...we don't get to pick who gets the gold medals?

With a subscription, you get a GA and if you are a Councilor or Goddess level then you get Buddy Gold Accounts to give to whoever you want. I don't have a subscription myself, but I think you can give away your buddy ga(s) on this page.
