I wanted to post here just because I've had as my status on this website for four years and I finally get to retire it! So grateful I won't be needing it for another 4 years! We are far from being healed as a country but at least we can say goodbye to the orange one. What a mess this has been.

Dgaf! Democrats are far from perfect but there's no room in my heart for the domestic terrorism this last president spent 4 years sewing. You will benefit more from this president than the last one, everyone will, even if you don't like him.

I'll probably borrow it if he fails to keep promises. I want to contact him to see if he can resolve some issues within some of the cities in our state, since our mayors and governor don't want to do anything. I'm still on the fence about him, but if he's willing to do something to clamp down hard on the property hustlers and greedy, slummy landlords I will back him up and support him.

Somebody needs to do something about the housing crisis that has blown sky high and gotten really absurd. Whats going on in Houston and Pasadena now makes me seriously ill.

You're so right. I am all for pushing Biden and literally any administration for results- protest even, it's our duty to hold the government responsible! Our government should serve the people and not the other way around. The housing crisis is one of so many problems. It is bad in my area also- it took the pandemic for me to be affected personally but it's been going on for years. Greedy real estate and corporate execs need to be held accountable.

The domestic terrorism over the summer, totally agree. As for Biden, we're going to have to agree to disagree. President Trump was everything I could ask for in a president.

I hadn't heard of the paradox of tolerance before, but it is so true! I agree completely with you! If we tolerate the hateful actions of right wing extremists, we allow their hatred to further spread and infect the country.

@/prinzom Hi, thanks! Yeah, I used to try to be extremely tolerant of everyone's opinions and always thought that every debate was worth having but I've come to realize that was a very naïve view. I've always felt strongly that everyone is entitled to their opinions but it has become apparent that some opinions are just too harmful and should not be tolerated by society. Not to mention you can't reason with people who believe irrational things or argue in bad faith so having a discussion with them is pointless. You can still believe whatever you want but you don't get to spout it everywhere and expect there to be no repercussions. In an ideal world, airing everything out for debate would quash bad ideas, but the problem with giving them a platform is that not everyone can entertain a thought without accepting it so bad ideas will simply spread.

The tone of my last comment might have been too antagonistic for this forum so I should probably edit it, but that doesn't mean I don't still agree with it. Anyone who still supports Trump at this point is simply not someone I'm going to get along with.

ETA: I'm sure there are many things conservatives can claim to be, but it's plainly evident that "most tolerant" isn't one of them.

The problem with the paradox of intolerance is that each side believes that it is the other that is intolerant. Therefore you get nowhere with it.

I'm really hoping that Biden will do a better job than the cheeto did. Someone who actively tries to divide America as often as Trump does should have never become president. Even some people I know who used to enjoy hanging out together are now constantly arguing with each other about who's party is "good" and who's is "evil". It's ridiculous.

Regardless of whether Biden keeps all his promises being rid of Donald is a good thing. If nothing else we just got four years of a president who answers questions thoughtfully and doesn't use Pocahontas as an insult. It's a low bar, but at least he can clear it.

Everything you wanted in a president? Putting kids in cages, golfing more than doing his actual duties, trying to build a pointless border wall, destroying your country's standing on the world stage, making enemies with everyone except for dictators, encouraging terrorism, profiting off the presidency, etc. etc.

But let's get right to the meat of it:

You wanted him to hurt specific people. That's what you look for in a president. Hurting the "right" people. Anyone who isn't like you.

Sorry, but childish insults will get you nowhere with me. If you don't believe me about the "cages", go look it up yourself. I will say this in Obama's defense, it was done for humane reasons. Women and children were being placed in what amounted to carports in 90 degree weather. He was trying to set up temporary shelters in air conditioned buildings and the "cages" were chainlink fencing set up to separate groups. The information is pretty easy to find if you look.
