I played in subeta’s early days (talking 2006 timeline) and the art is definitely outdated, but for nostalgic reasons it may be cool to add a classic option to pet coloring.

I know there’s overlays and stuff, just thought an official color as a nod to subeta’s origins could be an awesome concept. (And plus if the art is still archived somewhere, additional work wouldn’t be necessary)

What classic version do we take for some pets? The Rreign has what, three different versions, same for the Montre. The Ontra went through several revamps as well.

Keep in mind that some other pets do not have a "classic" option, or the classic option has so little difference with the original art that it's not worth it.

It's indeed better suited as an overlay, because we have too many options for some species, and not enough for others.

I agree with everything said.

But one other thing, that staff has said in relation to non-pet revamps that people wanted reverted. That is the "image" of Subeta. Staff don't want to encourage us to use old, outdated artwork because it reflects badly on the site. The art is one of the things that has distinguished this site from other pet sites since the beginning, and as much as Subeta was hailed for its art back then, its matured so much since.

Only reason I disagree with this sentiment is we have the scribble color, which is awful art. And it’s not an overhaul, just a classic color option. So the distinct subeta art is still quality and still there.

The thing is that the "iconic" look isn't always the first - I'm thinking of the Kumos, of course, but also the Rreign, Terracoon and Torrey - where the revamp just before the art we have now is more fondly remembered. It had been on the site longer before it was revamped.

And then, we have things like the Keeto and Kora, which...aren't really much of a change.

Yep quality art!

Scribble was an April fools day joke. But you know, as awful as you think it is, still quality art. Its not everyone's cup of tea, granted, but its the same with, say Jackson Pollock art - at lot of people think its trash and their 5 year old could do better. Shrug.

I don't know a lot about art theory or technique, but I know enough to know that I don't know enough to make the scribbles turn out in quite the same way as skilled artists can.

If a new color is to be introduced, it should be something that would be functional for all species, and as Sopheroo noted above, some have gone through several radical updates and some have gone through only minor changes - to the point that they've changed very little, if at all. Artists would have to somehow fill these in by drawing these pets in the style of Old Subeta, and that feels like going backward.

Plus, you haven't been around very long so you may not have had a chance to notice, but revamps are often controversial. I can only imagine how much people would argue about which old version of a species is a true "classic"!

You kinda poo-pooed custom overlays in your original post, but I think those are really a better way to go for this idea. You get the option of choosing which classic look you like, and you actually would be pretty unique because most other people wouldn't think to do that!

Not to turn this into an art debate or anything but uh.. you didn’t read what I wrote lol. I said it would be a color option, not an overhaul of subeta art. So subeta’s current quality of art is still here, therefore not represented by a color option. (Just like scribble doesn’t represent subeta’s art quality make sense?)

The pictures you provided don’t make sense in response to that. But we get it, you don’t like the idea lol

LOL I don't actually dislike the idea. I think some of the original art would make fine custom overlays.

I just don't think the idea should be supported by the site by making it an official color.

I am not interested in this pet color as an option.
