Was possibly thinking it would be cool to kind of do a separate wishlist that is linked up to the Lumi tree page that people could mark what they got for that user so the next person doesn’t choose the same item.

Would also help with people who gift the same person additional items and they’re unsure of what they have gotten them without looking at the ‘gifts given’ page.

I’m horrible at describing stuff. Does this even make since to anyone, lol?

This would entirely spoil lumi though cause then anyone could just check and see what’s under their tree :(

Over the years there have been a lot of discussions/suggestions about what to do with respect to duplicate gifts. In the end, there is no way to prevent this without spoiling the surprise.

Not to mention there are things I want duplicates of! LOL I would be happy if everyone of my friends gave me a Morty card for instance. I also have galleries and quite often I end up with a gift and have to choose - do I eat it, read it, wear it or stick it in my gallery? With duplicates I don't have to decide!

Last year, right after tree opening, one of my friends started a gift exchange thread - listed all their duplicates and other people did too, and there was a big party and a great exchange.

Finally, another way to mitigate the issue is to maintain your wishlists, to have a large and varied listing, and/or list a lot of items you don't mind getting duplicates for.

I forget the last threat this came up but I always liked the idea of a 2nd popup saying something along the lines of:

"This gift is already under [USERNAMES] Tree. Are you sure you want to leave this gift?"

That only pops up when its a duplicate.

What you are referring to happens with weddings, it's called a Gift Registry. But we users are not new couples just starting out in real life.

A gift is still a gift even if it is a duplicate. Sell the extra, and get what you do want with the proceeds.

If you get duplicates...it's not like other people know. If user A and B both send me a , they're not gonna know bc they can't see my tree's gifts unless I share them.

So I can stick it in my gallery and they'll think "Oh cool, she put my gift there." They don't know I got two! They think their gift is being showcased! Win/win/win.

Ehh I’m so torn cuz if this was real life I’d say, hell yeah, I want people to know exactly what I need before gifting anything—but since it’s a game I can just resell any gifts I don’t want and make a profit anyway XD

Yeah true duplicates aren’t bad at all. I really like the idea of the gift exchange! This is my first Lumi that I’ve been really active.

I figured since we can’t navigate to our own trees that it may be a good idea for the gifters to be able to see on that page. But yeah I figured some people might be able to find their way around and spoil the surprise.

There are two main problems with the suggestion brought up.

1. So I spend x amount of CSC on a great gift then get faced with this message. I already have the item in question what do I do now? (LOL maybe I only buy stuff for my friends that I want so I can keep it for myself if it happens)
2. I have no way of knowing if the potential giftee actually wants duplicates of the item. So I feel bad if I go ahead and give it anyway, or I feel bad because I don't give it to them. Then, if I don't give it, I need to spend more time finding another gift.

That’s true!! Maybe there could be like categories how the wishlist you can name them like ‘always want’.

Seeing as I also suggested this kinda lol I support it. And you could definitely have a checkbox that says "dont limit the number of this item under tree" If people skirt around and peek using friends it's not great but if there was a rule to like, not post asking for help, I dont see why it couldnt be. If people end up peeking I guess thats sad but I think its nicer then worrying "should I buy this? they already probably got this? then no one gets it because they think someone else did. (I really know this stresses me out bc I hate giving duplicates if the person really only wants one)... and its expensive sometimes too ( I know that sounds bad but its really true especially with users with expensive only items on wl) XD . I dont think I'd want to find out I gifted someone a cw they already have now they have to trade one off? and , if i looked and no one sent it alrready I personally would feel good giving it vs wondering, if i see them trading it later if its what I sent or a duplicate gift XD But mostly it seems like they may feel pressured to then trade it off and may make them feel uncomfortable? Just my thoughts.
