Hi, I hope this is the right forum for this! I've really been enjoying Caliph's Tomb, and I wanted to know if it's based on a real-life card game? Is it a solitaire variant? I find myself wanting to play way more than the 10-times-a-day limit XD
they're definitely based on solitaire for sure! there's some changes though, i'll be using klondike rules as a comparison since that's the version most people are familiar with. generally you'd need to switch between colors (ie red then black then red), but here you can pick up multiple of the same color. additionally, you can also use jokers as wildcards, which isn't quite vanilla either.
top left is most similar to pyramid, with the biggest change being that you don't need to match two cards to equal 13, you can just go up/down as need be. all of the other ones seem to be a variant on that? the main idea behind the structure being that you need to reveal multiple cards to get to the ones behind them.
your best bet might be just to pick up a deck of cards, or maybe see if there's a website that'll let you like. create your own rules to play on your own?
if not, you could learn one of the other variations and use an app/website to play that virtually since that might be a bit more accessible if you don't have the space. or, if i can recommend trying flip flop solitaire or sage solitaire? they're both really fun deviations from klondike that i keep coming back to!
good luck!! ive been p into solitaire over the years since it's pretty easy to just pick up a game on the go!
I'd say its based on Golf Solitaire. The game play is the same as Golf, but the layout is more like Tri Peaks. Golf deals all the cards face up, whereas Tri Peaks deals them face down but for the "playing" row.
There are several rules variations. Some games the King is an end point, you can't play ace on king, or king on ace. Some have different tableaux, some deal all the cards up, others have card face down. LOL all the variations are called different things, so it can be hard to find the type of game you want.

Oh wow, I always forget there's so many different solitaire variants out there! Thank you both and , I'll definitely look into all of those. I do actually have a deck of cards (or several, they used to sell anime playing card decks a lot at cons), so that seems like a fun thing to try on one of those days when I'm forcing myself to stay away from screens XD
LOL I'm showing my age here, but when I was a kid (and even up until my university days) I always kept a deck of mini playing cards in my purse or pocket. If I couldn't find someone to play a game with, I'd play solitaire. The mini cards meant I didn't need much space to play. I even had a couple of solitaire versions that I could play with the deck in hand so I could play standing in line, or other places where there was no convenient surface. I used to know so many different types of solitaire!
