It feels really pointless to know how much you've spent on others during the holidays. Not to mention it doesn't feel very... Festive to count how much you've spent. More like you're just bragging about it, which just makes it feel dirty. To me at least. So I think we should get rid of it.
Gifts Given is an incredibly useful page for keeping track of who you have sent items to, and what you sent them. I would be at a major loss without it. It's my private way of making sure I'm hitting all the trees I planned to. And if I decide I have a little more budget for extra presents I can go back and make sure I'm not sending the same thing twice.
However, when I scroll all the way down the page I see "We estimate you've spent about X on presents this year!"
For starters, I didn't ask.
Secondly, it's not even accurate. Items I already had are being counted, items purchased with alternative currencies are counted as sP, and the worth of an item isn't necessarily what I spent on it. It doesn't keep track of CSC spent either. Even if it is just a rough estimate, what we have is an entirely inaccurate number made to represent the worth of items shared with friends.
My question is, who told anyone they could decide how much a Lumi gift is actually worth? Don't I get to decide if the 5k flower a friend sent is worth millions because they spared the time to think of me? And more importantly, why does it even matter? My understanding from the Subetapedia Luminaire entry was that the holiday is a reminder to share, not brag or boast.
Generosity doesn't need to be validated or defined as a number. This is a holiday meant to include ALL users with ANY amount of wealth they have to share. It's not a competition, I don't need or want a personal score and I don't want to hear anyone else's.
Get rid of it. Or at least make it a rule like with Mysterious Melody not to talk about it.
i like having it there, and i would prefer to see it stay.
you can use custom CSS to force it not to display, if you'd prefer not to see it.
please find a line of code enclosed below.
disclaimer: i have not checked all parts of the site to ensure it doesn't force other things not to display.

I'm really confused how this is bragging. Only you can see that number.
If people are making threads to share that number - well, people will do what people do. And if someone wants to brag about how much they spent on gifts, they don't need an official number to do so.
That being said, if it's not really accurate, what is the benefit of it?
agree with your original point because it would lessen the number of people hintbegging by touting their “sP spent”.
but my biggest gripe with it is that it’s just not accurate. it only counts gifts youve given through the tree system; gift center gifts, mysterious melody, and any other sources of gifting aren’t tracked with the sP tracker.
Much like real life, I consider retaining the information of money spent on gifts, heavy emphasis there, to be in very bad taste.
Like yes, it was whatever it cost but I don't get to do this but a couple times a year and I don't exactly keep track as it's a gift. I don't expect/want to be paid back for it and I certainly don't want to go, groveling, onto the advertising boards like, "WOE IS ME, I SPENT SO MUCH ON FRIENDS, NOW I'M BROKE. PLZ BUY."
Not to mention the inaccuracies of this counter. Either make it accurate or do away with it, plain and simple. Or make it against the rules to hound that over people after the splurge therein. Idk.
My two cents.

It's always seems like an odd thing to tally, because it's rare that I spend actual sp on gifts, rather than sending items I'd hoarded in my vault or used extra event currency to buy them. It's simple a measure of how much the subetan economy values these items at this point in time.
I would much rather have a counter of the number of people I'd gifted (and possibly the total number of individual gifts), instead.
It does sort of go against the spirit of the event and, as others have pointed out, it's not accurate. While it's easily ignored, or removable with custom css, I'm all for getting rid of it.
I like it. You don't have to visit the page or scroll all the way down.
I hate to learn that people are bragging about how much they've spent though.
The only aspect to this list, is the list of items given out to other users, I t end to like this because of the fact that I can keep track of users that have received gifts and monitor what was given out.
As for the sp range, I can see the end for it to be removed but also I can see a need for it to stay. For those that have certain sp goal to spend on lumi etc.

Unless theres a huge strain from the calculation...theres really no reason to remove it based on preference. Custom CSS can do that.
If the main reason is bragging, people will still brag about giving $ amount based on their own valuations...which...is also subjective
I don't really like that it encourages bragging, and making you feel obligated to spend a load of SP or spend CSC on items worth a load of SP just so you can feel good about yourself. Not everyone can afford to get expensive gifts, especially newer users, and some people are saving up SP for things they probably wouldn't expect to recieve as a gift anyway, or for things that can't be gifted like pet slots.
I made sure my wishlist has several items that I could afford to buy myself, just so people can get me those if they can't or won't spend too much. And I also care more about who I get gifts from rather than what they are.
YO! I do this too! I'm...hesitant to spend bucketloads of sp at once. Even though my biggest purchases have been limited to pet slots for the most part. I just like the feeling of having that comfy nest egg, ya know!
But yeah, when I see the "spent x amount of sP this Luminaire" line, I feel a bit guilty because I feel I haven't done enough giftwise for the friends I've made on this site. So I can understand those who want to remove it.....

I actually like it, just because I think it's cool to see how much in those items' sP worth I would have or have spent. I didn't think about people using it as bragging rights, but that's just stupid anyway since it isn't accurate.
I would like it to stay, but if it goes away I won't be broken. I just think it's an interesting estimate.
I agree with . It doesn't hurt anything and it's easy not to look at (either by not going there or hiding it) so I don't see a need for staff to spend time to remove it. Though it is crazy inaccurate, especially since CWs entered the mix.
I haven't given CWs...does it not count them in there or just values it at the cost of like 600 CSC in the market.
tbh the way I view gifting, is that a gift is worth.. $0. Because I am giving it away for free, so it doesn't matter what I "could have gotten" for it!
I don't really mind the counter being there and I was honestly surprised to see the rough cost of the items I've sent, cuz I also have been mostly gifting from my shop and vault. It kind of makes me feel rich to keep seeing that counter go up even though I know none of those items are mine anymore XDD
No preference but just wanted to share a few thoughts.
My thought is why have it if it's inaccurate anyway, and all it does is encourage people to c/p it and brag about it? Even if not everyone does it, people still do it, and the counter doesn't do anything useful.
There's no achievement or anything that would constitute it sticking around. I mean, we got rid of the gallery and account worth counters, why are we keeping this one, that does even less?

Just to clarify - it would be more effort for us to keep it than to get rid of it, and that goes for anything on subeta.net, since all site features will be re-implemented in V2. So if we opted to get rid of this, that's one less thing we have to code in V2. That said, for this specific thing, it does not matter much either way. It's not a very expensive calculation, it wouldn't be hard for us to code anew or to get rid, so my point is there's no need to take our resources into consideration in the debate - this feature is pretty negligible on that front.
The calculation is not actually what you spent though - it's more of an estimated total item value, all the calculation actually does is add together the user price for all of the items. I think this value is 0 for most CWs so that would throw it off too.

Mostly I just laugh at how inaccurate it is.
If people want to brag or complain because of this number, I'm fine with that. I mean, sure, its not in the spirit of the season, but so what? We can't force people to be happy or merry. Some people also just like to complain, who am I to stop them? If it bothers me I can block them so I don't have to see it. Or just go "tsk" and move on.
If it bothers someone to see their own number, if it makes them feel bad, they can remove it with the CSS that posted.
If its a major drain on the servers, I can see removing it, but otherwise, I don't really see the need.
