Hello! My name is Moonie and I just joined the site yesterday. I was a member on this site right after it opened and stayed for a rather long time, up until about 8 years ago. I'm pretty sure my old account name was taken as there is another new user with the name, so I'm here to start from scratch and make some new friends. ❤️

Anywho... I'm 29 years old, a stay at home parent, and lover of nerdy and cute things. I generally don't have time for online things, but I'm trying to carve out some time for myself and get back into having hobbies. I enjoy things like Dungeons & Dragons (3.5 only), anime, reading, nature, crafts, and baking. I'm also really into celebrating things (like Halloween or the winter solstice) so I'm happy I joined during Luminaire.

I'd love some more adults to chat with since I'm guessing a lot of users that stayed are over 20 now. Does anyone have a favorite forum on here? I've been navigating most of the site myself and have figured out pretty much everything again really quick, but this is my first time stepping back into the forum area. I'm excited to poke about and find more features and meet everyone. Feel free to send me a message if you'd like to chat!

Welcome How is the forum area treating you? I'm a returning user myself but I've never really been interested in forums until now.

What character(s) do you currently play in your D&D campaign?

- Hello! :)

- My favorite anime is probably Full Moon wo Sagashite, but there are so many I like I'm not sure I should pick that.

- Good so far. I haven't been able to stay on long enough to browse all of them yet. I'm currently starting up a new campaign with my spouse and am doing a homebrew character Hudeer Druid. My character before this was a Tibbit Cleric.

Yeah it does take quite a bit of time to navigate all of the forums. Homebrew games are so much fun! I've only played a homebrew campaign once, and still it was the best character creation experience I've had while playing. Are you planning on playing your druid as a healer? I've never played 3.5e so I'm not familiar with the class mechanics.

- Homebrew is all we really play. We did strict basic books once and it only lasted two sessions.

Yeah my druid is going to be a healer for the most part. I'm not really sure how newer version of D&D work since we tried 4e once and that was the end of straying from 3.5e. You can play any of the druids spells on the list from PHB in 3.5e. A couple of the D20 books and magazines have additional spells, so she will have some ability to harm as well. We usually get really big into the character creation part since it's our favorite and will take 3-4 sessions (4-8 hours each) to make sure they have a complete character sheet, background, character art, and about me sheet. We even got lucky for one of our sessions and the DM at the time got us custom figures for that campaign.

What kind of characters do you like to play? Do you have a favorite character at the moment? What version of D&D do you play?

, welcome back! A lot of your interests match mine so I thought I'd pop in and say a proper hello! I'm Ren, I'm 31, also a stay at home parent, and love nerdy and artsy things. I'm into everything you listed except baking (I prefer cooking on stove top or just shoving roasts in the oven, hahah).

You mentioned liking nature. Do you like to visit parks/forests/bio-reserves? Do you do photography at all? Bird-watching? I like to go on trails and through forests, but in the good weather I also love searching for shells on the beach (on the one day a year I get to go to the beach, hahah). I'm a very casual bird-watcher and I like to take photos of nature, but they're not professional quality.

What do you like to read? I'm a fan of fantasy, sci-fi, tragedy, horror, and dystopian worlds, but I'll try almost anything if it's well-written and interesting. Some novels/series I've read: Silverwing (and all sequels/prequel), Lord of the Flies, The Hobbit, Watership Down, the MaddAddam trilogy, Beloved, Haydn of Mars, The Name of the Wind (and the Wise Man's Fear), the core books currently out for A Song of Ice and Fire, and Wild Magic.

What genres of anime are your favourites? I'm a fan of horror and tragedy (as well as the themes listed for genres I enjoy reading), but I'll watch most anything and have seen a lot of rom-coms, too. Some series I've watched (and/or read) include: Elfen Lied, Charlotte, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball (and DBZ), Gundam Wing, Nagi no Asu Kara, Tokyo Ghoul, The Promised Neverland, Shingeki no Kyojin, Excel Saga, Claymore, Log Horizon, and everything that Junji Ito has released. I haven't watched Full Moon wo Sagashite, but I remember reading the manga back in high school!

I haven't played a session of D&D since we moved in the summer, but we were playing a 5e campaign, though I've been playing D&D for over a decade (3.5e, 4e, and 5e). I love tiefling warlocks, but I've played a number of different races and classes. I've always loved character-building, too! I used to do text-based roleplaying online before I was introduced to D&D so it was definitely my jam. My husband loves world-building and he DMs for us so we usually play his homebrews.

Happy Survival!

That's really cool that you guys aren't bound by the text in the books. My current DM is.

I've only played 5e, so I don't have much experience playing the other editions (though my one homebrew experience was 3.5e based). I normally play support characters, my last character was a gnome bard named Bumblefoot. Currently I'm playing a half elf monk/rogue dual class named Sayyadina. I'm not used to playing either of those classes so it makes combat really fun and new for me. My favorite character though was my half elf druid named Comfort who was a 13yr old boy. Very fun to play.

I love how your party gets in to the character creation part of the game. My party, surprisingly, isn't in to roleplay much with the exception of myself and one other person. I'm the only one who gets in to the details of character creation. Our DM just got a 3D printer so for the first time I'm able to see my party-member's visions of their characters. It's really cool since I'm the only one who draws out my character. I feel like I should suggest longer character creation sessions, I think it will greatly improve our roleplay.

Do you draw your own character art? What's been your favorite character?

- Thank you for the welcome back! 🦋

I do very much enjoy nature. I'm actually a Naturalist Witch in real life, so I just have to be around it to feel myself. Unfortunately our area has been extremely restricted this year and I don't feel comfortable going out with so many people not following guidelines, so no parks or anything since February. When I'm able to though, I just love going out pretty much anywhere and enjoying it. My favorites though are beaches, forests, and wildlife reserves. I'm addicted to being in/near water, so I'm happiest when I have access to ponds, lakes, rivers, etc.

We have our own little cute "mini forest" outside our apartment balcony though, so I get to sit out and enjoy that at the moment until things calm down. We get lots of cute visitors like birds, lizards, squirrels, raccoons, and field mice. We even got an owl who stopped by for two weeks, I'm guessing on his way to find a new place. It's not the same as being able to go into the forest, but it's still a lovely view to wake up to.

I do very much enjoy taking photographs of wildlife. I haven't done so in a while, but I'm hoping 2021 is a better year to get back into all my hobbies full force. Floral closeups and animal photos are my favorite to take, but landscape shots and candid photos are fun too. I wouldn't call any of mine professional either, but they do make me happy. Do you post your pictures anywhere like Deviantart or other art based sites?

I haven't done hobby birdwatching since I was younger, but I should probably get back into it. I do enjoy seeing all the cuties that visit the little bird house we have setup though. With all those new services to get photos printed, I'm sure I could make some sort of cute coffee table book for myself of the birds we get outside since they're so varied. Do you like birds a lot? What is your favorite animal?

As for books, I enjoy reading in general. I'm mostly just into checking out self help books and things on astrology at the moment, but any suggestions I'll pick up. Some of my favorites though are The Hobbit, the Harry Potter series, Warrior Cats, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Princess Bride, Death By Pumpkin Spice, The Chronicles of Narnia series, and The Green Witch. I also enjoy manga quite a bit, but only currently own Kitchen Princess, Pokémon, and one of the Tinkerbell mangas. Full Moon wo Sagashite, Princess Jellyfish and InuYasha are my favorite mangas though. Are there any books you would recommend? What are you currently reading?

I don't think I really have a favorite genre for anime either. I guess I do enjoy more of the magical girl and slice of life than anything, but I'm not sure I'd pick favorites. I am extremely picky about watching them with subtitles vs. dubbed. Some of the things that I do like to watch though are Full Moon wo Sagashite, Sailor Moon (Japanese version), Ruroni Kenshin, InuYasha, Food Wars, Restaurant to Another World, Time of Eve, Your Name, Wolf Children, and Scrapped Princess, to name a few. I'm trying to get my spouse to watch Full Moon wo Sagashite right now. What anime are you currently watching? Do you read manga still?

We haven't played D&D in a while either, but we're starting a new campaign in a bit. We started character creation last month, but with work hours being crazy at the moment we've only been able to do two sessions of that, but hopefully will be able to do another session of character building tomorrow night. I'm a nut for world building and we generally have to play one shots to keep my away from spending two months making something from scratch. I have files for two full worlds I've built so far down to minute details. My spouse is DMing this time to keep me from trying to exactify the realm we're playing in. We did Eberron last time and I had to build all the shops in detail for each area before I let everyone play... Are you and your husband going to be playing D&D again anytime soon?

- Haha yeah. We try to stick with books as much as possible, just not the main set. We use a lot of D20 verified books, the Dungeons & Dragons magazines, and homebrew content that's been cross verified to be accurate for stats for the level / power. On rare occasion we'll make up an item or modify a homebrew race if it doesn't fit exactly what we want for backstory or storyline.

I generally play support characters as well, though they're not always extremely supportive. My favorite character was a cleric of Vecna named Loth. She was a little batty and unhelpful a lot of the time to say the least. The rest of the group, for the most part, loved her so the campaign went on for a rather long time. I don't think in all my years I have ever played a monk. I might have to try it next time to see what it's like. I've done a lot of classes, but only bard, cleric, druid, ranger, rogue, sorcerer, and wizard from the regular players handbook.

Oh, I wouldn't be able to live if my group wasn't roleplayers. My first group were hardcore into the roleplay aspects so much so we did LARP with D&D a good bit of the time. It was the most fun I've ever had. We were all high school best friends though. My last group before we moved / pandemic was pretty decent on the roleplaying too. I don't think I've ever played with anyone who is strictly for the fighting aspect, but I see a lot of TikToks of people being like that.

That's so cool about the 3D printer! I would absolutely adore getting figures of all of my previous characters. I might get some made or make them myself some day. I do draw character art for all of my characters. Some of them only have one or two sketches, my obvious favorites have multiple sketches, lineart, and some of them have full profile art; front, back, sides done in color with a couple posed line/sketches and wardrobe list drawn. I'm not great at drawing, but it makes me feel more connected to the character when I can see them and they have basically a short story for their background. Haha

You should totally get your group to do a little more character creation! From what I've seen on Pinterest, 5e has so much to offer from the fanbase that everyone could really get some ideas out of it.

Does 5e have realms like 3.5e (ex: Eberron / Ravenloft)? If so, what realm are you playing in right now? Do you have character art for Sayyadina?
