Hi! I’m currently training my pet Nibs, and I plan to probably only train her. Her stats are pretty much all at 900 right now. Is there a recommendation on stats to train if she’s going to be my only battle pet? I do dream of defeating Roland one day... Also, does anyone only keep one battle pet? What’s the advantages of having multiple (I’d really prefer one)? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Aim for the cap which is 35,000 total stats. What your final build will be is all up to you! Of course better battlers will offer better advice~

As for training more than one pet, that is totally up to you. Some people train multiple pets so they can get more copies of loot, more amulets, tomes, etc. At the end of the day it's your call if you wanna put the effort into more than one battle pet. I'm training 12 pets in total right now but only 3 of them are battle savvy. The rest are just being trained in case in the far off future I need more pets for loot farming.

What’s the advantages of having multiple (I’d really prefer one)?
I started out training all my pets because I like things to be even and fair. It wasn't really for ability so much as aesthetic for most of them, and I only initially designated one pet to be my "battle pet" (although that grew into three, but mostly because of an accident of stats). I was going to stop when I reached a nice number.

Then one day I started battling my pets because some of them were really lagging behind, and I wanted to catch them up with exp and eggs. And I found, to my surprise, that I actually liked it. Don't get me wrong: it gets tedious. Often. But it's also sort of zen to keep clickety clicking as I listen to an audiobook for class or watch a tv show.

Right now I'm training all 77 of my pets. If that ever gets prohibitively expensive, I might stop for more than just a couple, but thus far it's easily manageable with daily questing.

I find many benefits to it, including:

  • Loot for days - When a challenger offers a book, I want to be able to read it to all my pets, and what better (and cheaper) way to do so than having them earn it themselves? In addition, there's mage amulets, tomes, and those eggs that can be used on pets up to T3. Not to mention all the battle shop tokens I earn. Even if I was serious about only battling with one of my pets, earning these with all my less-qualified pets would help boost that pet's stats immensely. Right now, I'm doing the dumb thing and trading my mage amulets for glade potions, but hey, I'll wise up eventually. ;)
  • Self satisfaction, pride, and sense of accomplishment - I guess it's the same with any game where you just kinda zone out and farm stuff. You get to feel like you're accomplishing something even when life might not be going your way. The more pets you have training, the greater the satisfaction.
  • Z E N - It's zen because it doesn't require a lot of thought, so you can think about other things while you do it, whether Subeta-related or RL-related. Also, I often have a hard time concentrating while reading/sitting still, so I find it something to do to occupy myself while someone else reads to me.
  • Future convenience - You never know when it might come in handy to have 77 pets who can battle a strong challenger with good loot. Would you rather not train them and regret it later?
  • Jobs - The higher you train level and strength, the better the job you can get, and the more sP you can get back in return.
  • Standing out from the crowd - If you ever decide to adopt out your pets, whether they have legacy names or older IDs or not, you can feel better that you've prepared them to be desirable. Even baby battlers get a second look.
  • Expensive weapons and scrolls - You bought 'em, might as well get as much use out of them as you can. The more pets you have as battlers, the more use your weapons are going to get.

Like I said, it may eventually get too expensive, but I haven't reached that yet. My hope is to at least get to T6 for most pets before it gets to that point. T6 has some good weapons and can defeat most easy, medium, and hard opponents.

I've modified the way the Training Center looks with Custom CSS to make it easier for me to train them both on my computer and on my mobile, as you can see below. It's pretty easy to do now and gives me something to redirect my attention during moments of distraction or boredom.

If you only want to train one, that's fine too. You can decide for yourself what works best for you. :)

Training your pet's stats evenly and dumping your experience points from battling and battle quests into health can help you progress faster. A lot of weapons past the low tiers heal a percent of your pet's max health, so the higher that is the more you will heal per turn. You can take harder hits from your opponents and recover from them faster, saving your once per battle healers like Phoenix Quill for bad critical hits rather than to recover from just being worn down.

One is fine if that's what you want. Battle pets are an investment, and as you get to tier 10 and beyond an armory and scroll library that will run you into the hundreds of millions of sP becomes necessary to not banging your head into a brick wall. Having more than one pet helped me justify spending all the money to myself.

That said, I don't like battling much. It's dull and repetitive, and wears out its welcome fast. I might be happier with fewer pets because of this.

I started training two pets but only had one battle pet when I first joined the site. This was due to me not really having enough sP to train multiple pets at the time and not sure if battling was something I would enjoy. I've had multiple pets I train and battle with for a long time now. Battling in general is an expensive hobby. The more serious you get, the more of an investment it becomes. The benefits of having multiple battle pets for me are:

  • experiment with different builds: all even stats vs boosting specific stats
  • having pets to battle and train with again at different tiers: part of the fun in battling for me is not the destination, but how you get there
  • duplicate loot drop so you can keep one copy and then sell the extras
  • better investment on weapons and challengers bought: you get more bang for your buck when you buy a 500 mil weapon or 250 CSC cash shop challenger when you have multiple battle pets vs 1 battle pet that will utilize the weapon or challenger

It depends on how much fun you have battling if you want more than one battle pet. It's a lot of time, money and effort. If you want a battle pet only to be able to participate in battle events, I would just stick with the one, but if you find it enjoyable then you might want to have more than one when you get bored with just one pet.

Pros of having a single pet: events take me 15 minutes to clear, an hour for a boss? as opposed to countless sleepless nights or days at the computer for people with 50. You gotta figure out what your priorities are

You Won! You have defeated Cursed Effigy 10 times! You earned 2905 sP for beating Cursed Effigy! Chana earned 1000 EXP Points! Cursed Effigy drops: Dyed Red Rreign Effigy Bleached Red Rreign Effigy

40 pets with 10 wins. Singed Scale of Red Rreign x12 and Mage Amulet x120 = 14 Tomes. Took less than an hour. Different strokes for different folks.

Let’s not compare the level of commitment that this takes

If you have 100 battle pets, you can get the loot a hundred times... if you put yourself through all these battles. As I said, priorities? Figure out yours

Instead of looking at the extremes, you can also effectively train 2 or 3 and it not take much more time than just training and battling with one. Some people have multiple battle ready pets, but only battle with their strongest, depending on their mood.

Cons of 1 pet: -Once you get 10 wins on all opponents that you have unlocked, all that's left is to farm them or wait for event challengers. The higher you farm them the harder they become. If you want to farm loot like crystal mods, it's easier to get them with multiple pets and less wins.

-If you are unhappy with your pet's build, you will need to buy leeches and boosters/exp to change stats instead of just doing a different build on another pet

-Only one set of loot so if you need multiple copies of a drop for whatever reason, you need to buy the extra copies

Cons of multiple pets: -More investment in training and battling as opposed to one. Depending on how many, it could take a lot more effort.

-Battling is very repetitive. You feel it a little more with events where challengers are only around for a short amount of time. Even though you don't have to battle with all your pets, you feel inclined to do so while they are available. For example, it's very easy to get bored beating the same opponent 10 times each with 3 pets over the span of 2 days as opposed to beating the same opponent 10 times each with 3 pets over the span of a year.

I would say if you are happy with the one, then stick with the one. But if you enjoy the process of training and battling, then train as many as you feel comfortable managing.
