seeing as we're in the month of halloween, what's your favourite scary movie? as you might be able to guess from the phrasing of this question, one of mine is scream
I have a lot of favorites, so a few of them are The Conjuring, Zombieland, The Ring, and Oculus.
"Think about it. If I was a copy, why would I kick my own butt?" -Dark Pit, Kid Icarus: Uprising (2012)
Scream was good ;) Personally I liked Nightmare on Elm Street. 1,2 he'll come for you.... 3,4 lock your door
And a recent one, House of the Disapeared, a Korean movie. The link leads to a review i wrote on this movie. It has spoilers, so be warned.. ;)
I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
Scream! Those movies are a blast. The series actually got me interested in the genre as a whole

Lights Out. it creeped me out real good and I would rewatch it.
Cabin in the woods, Amityville horror 1 & 2, and the Hellraiser movies always had a soft spot in my heart.

Halloween (1978) and Nightmare on Elm Street have always been my favorites. I did recently watch Train to Busan which is a Korean zombie movie that's pretty amazing

Alien is my all-time favorite movie, but The Thing ( 1982 ) is a close second
The opening scene of Ghost Ship is quick and sort of gory, but I've always been impressed by it. There's also a wonderful scene showing the sequence of events leading up the current time in the film that plays "My Little Box" by John Frizzell.
A few with great plots I can also suggest are The Others (ghosts) and Signs (aliens.)
The Hannibal series of films aren't exactly horror but they're considered scary movies. As they're my favorite, I'm obligated to suggest them.

Recently, my favorite horror movie became the Love Witch!
I honestly love The Conjuring, the original It from the 80s (haven't seen the remake yet), the SAW movies, Nightmare on Elm Street 3+4, Dead Silence, Ju-On, and also one of the trashiest horror movies ever been made - Attack of the Killer Hog - it's brilliant if you love bad horror movies. XD
Hereditary. It was well done, well paced and creepy.
As cheesy as the movies are, I really like the Puppet Master. I'm a sucker for the stop motion and the puppets.
I'm not really into horror movies, but a few years ago at a Halloween event, a Japanese movie called "House" (or "Hausu") was shown on a screen at the venue. Couldn't watch it properly there since there was no sound, but what I was seeing looked absoutely insane. A friend was there and we were cracking up laughing trying to figure out just what the hell we were looking at.
I picked up a copy last year and finally got to see it in full. Only Japanese audio, so you have to watch it subbed. I recommend giving it a look though. Once things really kick off, it's an utterly bonkers rollercoaster of a movie. Just make sure you find the right House, if you look for it. As this review points out, the name is pretty generic, and it's one of at least three horror movies with the same name.
Trick R Treat is amazing <3
Honestly the Final Destination movies. I'm still terrified of log trucks 😅
One of my absolute favorites is Noroi: The Curse, it's a Japanese found footage/pseudo-documentary about a paranormal researcher who investigates a series of mysterious events before disappearing. It grounds the increasing ghost activity in a really believable way and just keeps building on this fantastic feeling of dread. There's no dub for it but I really think it's worth checking out!
The director Kōji Shiraishi also has three other found footage movies I really liked: Occult, Shirome, and Cult (the last one dips a bit into horror-comedy).
