Okay, so I am not sure if this has been suggested yet, but I think that celebrating a real world holiday takes you out of the immersive world of subeta, and back to the realization that its a new year of the same old stuff. I'd much rather celebrate a subeta way, and stay immersed in the great world you have been creating for us.
So, this brings us to my full suggestion...
I Love love love Shengui guo, and its theme, so I want to follow that theme with a story about how all the subeta pets have come together to do something wonderful, like putting the stars in place for us all, maybe this can tie in with Maybe the Oracle, I think the Oracle would be the embodiment of a great goddess of some sort, who maybe asked the subeta pets to make the stars we see each night, From there, they create the subaten constellations!!!! Which ties in to the galactic pets and the coda caves perhaps? Not sure if their stories would interact well, but it would be a great time to release new galactic versions of pets that haven't gotten the color yet. Anyway--
Once the tie ins have been made, the Shengui guo people have a special name for the celebration of this new event, it is called the celebration and festival, it is the celebration of a subetan constellation. Each pet came to the Oracle in a specific order, and that order will be list or Order of our constellation celebration. Each year, we have the year of say, the Mahar, who I think should lead the order, as he was the first to arrive at the oracle's requested spot. and the reason why they also have dragon costumes for the HAs and multiple people costumes in the art of the celebration itself. It would look so inviting and celebratory. Then the next year, we have the year of the--- Tigrean maybe, whichever pet you decide should go next.
Then, each year, we celebrate a pet going up into the constellation!! And during their year, you can put out a lot of items that are themed with that pet type, such as a few different plushies, some wearables, and some celebratory items that everyone can collect for pet treasures. :3
Then, when we finally get to the last pet to go up into the constellation, we start once more with the Mahar!!
Any story would do, really, it doesn't have to tie in with constellations or coda caves, I just thought this would be a great holiday for us to get away from the norms of New years'.
Maybe this can coincide with a shengui guo styled pet release, which can be found in this thread: https://subeta.net/forums.php/read/884758/A-few-pet-color-ideas sorry to advertise that, but I REALLY would like to see that happen!!!
But anyway, I am open to a ton of suggestions on how the story could go, and how it can tie in with the rest of the subetan NPCs'
Also, I will alter this as great suggestions roll in, I'm really hopeful that this thread catches on, because I don't like celebrating the real world holidays, I want a subatan way to celebrate the new year, absorb me into your world, Keith, give the suggestion some thought ^^
Thanks for reading, and I hope this hasn't been suggested yet, I looked around and didn't see it, but you never know...
Hugs to everyone,
~Fox ♥
I've always thought that the themes of new years have a lot of overlap with the masquerade event. I'd love it if new years had its own distinct feel.
I...actually really like that New Years isn't tied to a specific Subeta area.
Most of the other holidays are themed around an area (Shadowglen for Survival, Atebus for Masquerade, Peka/Veta for Vesnali, Omen Islands for Keelhauliday, Shadowglen AGAIN for Morostide, Veta AGAIN plus Riverside Valley cause Charity for Fireside and Arctic Frost for Luminaire. Neugarten was originally YET AGAIN VETA THEMED but idk if it still counts.)
So, having an holiday that isn't tied to any country lore, something that's actually universal? Muy bueno, I love it. It's nice that everyone sees New Year as being important.
Having some incredibly unique take on it WOULD be cool. I feel like it's almost stereotypical to go and make the one very Southeast Asia diaspora-inspired area be the one centered around New Years' (it'd be fun to subvert expectations have New Years be more Omen Island instead!), but it would be nice to have some sort of holiday for that area just because it's such a pretty and inspiration-filled area, and could lend itself to great theming.
Personally, if there was any new holiday, I'd love something inspired by Tanabata, just to liven up the lull that is July-August on here. But I wouldn't mind a New Years thing either, for sure.
It doesn't have to be the Shengui Guo themed, But that's what I would LOVE to see, personally ♥♥
does anyone else have any other themes that they would like to see for new years? Because celebrating a holiday that coincides with, and celebrates exactly the real world holiday, just sort of brings me out of the subatan world, you know/?
Kind of like, if you are creating a world forr me, I want the magic to be non stop throughout the year. anytime I come to subata, I want to be entranced and delighted by the worldbuilding around subeta and its pets.
like,
would you even consider something to coinside with new years? that is subeta holiday instead of just real new years? or can we brainstorm a holiday subetans can enjoy and forget about the real world?
I would like more lands to have Subetan holidays associated with them.
Agree with about making a new years holiday south-asian.. I'd rather it be a lunar themed one around RL- lunar new year (altho unfortunately that falls around survival/masq). Omen Islands themed one would be nice! Or how about more of a Arctic Frost one, like an extension of Lumi?
Since has said they will focus artists on drawing for the holidays, why not have MORE HOLIDAYSSSSSS aww yeahhh
As much as I love the stylisation of Shengui-guo and the characters and items from that land, I'm with you about the culture theme thing. It kinda feels like 'exoticism' and that's something I don't mind with purely fantasy lands but did you know that the name for China in Mandarin is Zhōngguó? It's even pronounced the same way I had been pronouncing Shengui-guo in my head since I joined the site.
Yes to the New Years celebration being an independent holiday free from real life associations! This site is my escapism and I don't need to be reminded about the real world, especially not at New Year which I habitually avoid going outside for as fireworks are evil.
Shengui wise and if the Tea House ever comes through, it would be lovely to have various 'new years resolutions' themed tea ceremonies we can gather items for and brew into prizes or something like that. For one if I'm online for New Years (which I usually am as I hate crowds and loathe fireworks, lol), I'm probably going to be drinking tea and for two, I really love the idea of the site collectively building sigils into thoughtforms together out of our hopes and prospects for our coming year by ritualistically making blends and brews out of digital tea. Witchy shit is cool, fite me lol
I also really love the stars and space theme you mention though and it would be so cool to have the Subeta-verse fleshed out further with lore and to maybe tie this in to a new land? How cool would it be if each year alien emissaries from their respective pet themed constellations arrive to Subeta as the long distant descendants of the pets who originally went up to those stars to explore (or something, I'm just spitballing lol). We could have anthro looking version of pets as the aliens and all the items available (and plot jazz) would be themed around the two species.
