Can you please tell me what this means? I returned after being gone some years and 4 of my pets and my username was changed. Thank you!

pets who were created before the recent switch to non-unique names will have a legacy name, which is just whatever their name was at the time of the change (july 26). it will stay the same even if you change your pet's actual name, which can be done for free now; regular accounts get one free rename per week, while gold accounts get one free rename per pet per month. and with non-unique names, you can name your pets whatever you like, including simply removing the numbers.

you can view a pet's legacy name on their profile; if you don't want the legacy name stuck with them, though, you can remove it through the cleansing pool (right-hand archway in the bathhouse).

Thank you. I love that change. I was able to use a loyal perk to change my username and I was able to change all the names that were taken and given a number at the end of their name, without having to wait. Yay!

This might be too late, but if your username had changed because someone else took it (like if your username had been "queen" and when you came back it was "queen_528") then you should have already had a free name change waiting. You shouldn't have had to use a loyalty totem.

If that is the case, I'd recommend filing a ticket and seeing if you can get your totem back. I'd hate for you to have had to waste it on something you could have gotten for free. :)

Thank you. I could not find anything in the menus for preferences. I looked all over. I noticed errors a few times, particularly in the shop.

On the menu it's in the personal tab and called "dashboard". Doesn't make a whole lotta sense, but that's where it is. XD

The same name change applies to your name changed pets too. Changing its core name should be free for the ones that were taken. The display/ nickname is the 100% free within timeframe restrictions.

I don't think what you said is true. (Unless I misunderstood you.) The non-unique names are not a nickname/core name system. Legacy names can not be changed under any circumstances based on everything that admin has told us. They can only be deleted.

A pet's actual name is their name - it is not a display name or a nickname. Legacy names are just a bonus for pets created before the change to grandfather them in.

Now, I know it used to be that you'd get a free name change if your pet's name was taken, but I don't know how Subeta has incorporated that into the new system. It may be that could change those names twice this month if she wanted to. I'm not sure. But she can't change the legacy name.

I'm not sure what you mean. I had 4 pets whose names were changed. For example: Playful was changed to Playful_### Yesterday I renamed each of those 4 pets for free and it didn't count towards anything. I redeemed a 1 wk gold account and if I go back to Playful, it says I can still change his name this month. I also went to the cleansing pool for each of those 4 pets. :)

Ah, so it sounds like you did get a free name change based on the fact that the names were taken when you were away. Otherwise you would not be able to change their names again this month.

I was mostly responding to 's post, because I believe she was saying that you could change the legacy name of a pet. But that is not possible.

And for those four pets in particular who you sent to the cleansing pools, they no longer even have legacy names, so the point is moot. :)

No not the one with the legacy label. I do think it kinda blows for those whose names were taken and now have the name_### format as that legacy tag. However I do think if someone makes the first of a name they should get that as a display thing.

By core name I mean the one at initial creating. Like maybe you made Brigid but decided later to call her Butters and change the name on display. So Brigid is her "core" name but you can change what's shes called as a nickname/display name thing.

Honestly this whole change still confuses me. But its a newly implemented thing so they're bound to bring confusion as well as reflect where tweaks might need made.

I think where the confusion comes in is that there is no "core" name. If you name a pet Brigid and then change that name to Butters, then her name is now Butters and no longer Brigid at all, in any way, shape or form. The display name of the pet is the name of the pet, whether you change it every week or keep it the same for the rest of its time on Subeta.

The system keeps track of pets based on their ID numbers and who owns them. Their ID numbers, in essence, are their "core names", and of course these are unchangeable. But we can also tell the system to recognize a pet based on its owner. For example, if I had a pet named Brigid, and you had a pet named Brigid, we could link to them by the urls https://subeta.net/pets/Written/Brigid and https://subeta.net/pets/Kore/Brigid, and the system would know which pet to bring up based on who owned her.

There is no nickname system. If you change a pet's name, you are changing their actual name. The only time it might seem like there is a nickname system is if someone changes the name of a pet who also has a legacy name. For example, if you have a pet with the legacy name "Jonathan", you can decide to change the pet's actual name to "Jon". But this is not an official system nickname. It is simply showing that the pet's name is different from its legacy name. And a legacy name is a fixed, unchangeable label only applicable to pets created before July 27, 2020.

If you would like Subeta to implement nicknames or special markers for "first created" names, you might want to create a suggestion thread for it. :)
