So I watched a GIMP tutorial and recoloured the riftborn blob.....

What does everyone think? I'm trying to get good enough to do commissions for recolours.......

Oh wow! I kinda like that color scheme better than the maroon-ish purple color of the original! The green eye really pops here! Great job!

Well, I found the original riftborn color scheme gives me a headache, so I started considering a recolour.

Really? That gives me hope for being able to get paid currency for this. I was worried that I might have to alter something.

That looks really nice! I think you're right, it is a lot more calming than the original color.

If I had to nitpick, the only thing I noticed kinda off is that the teeth are now slightly bluish as well. I'm not sure what method you used to recolor it, but if you can whiten the teeth, it would look even better. :)

(Also, this is not a criticism but just a suggestion, depending on what look you're going for: it might give a bit of different texture/depth - idk the right word - if the areas around the rocks? and lightning were a slightly different blue than the body. Like a lighter one or maybe less saturated. Again, not absolutely necessary, just something you might try if you wanna. I see at the edges the lightning is almost purple, and that would be cool throughout.)

Ah! I thought that as well. If I started doing commissions for this, what would be a reasonable price?

That, unfortunately, I don't know.

Ah, well. CSC wise I think it'd be rather low. I'll keep going at it with other blob colours then move up to other species.

Agree with Thundercracker. Congrats on the spotlight win, and I like the recolor! That blue is perfect with the green eye. But the lightning needs to be a light color to stand out, I'm thinking yellow? And the teeth definitely need to be white and not blue. Recoloring can really be fun to do (and certainly a pain!) but takes a lot of practice. The more you understand how to do things like layers the better you get. I don't know 3/4 of things that are possible in GIMP or my Paint Shop Pro, but what I can do sometimes turns out really well. (We won't discuss the ones that don't. lol)

Hello! I don't have suggestions as people have already given useful ones, but I just wanted to say that I love this and prefer it over the original. :) Great job!

I love the color scheme! I agree with the previous posters that the lightning could stand out a bit more, although I like how it changes from blue to purple in some spots. The teeth didn't jump out at me as being blue until I read those comments and went back for a closer look. I can see what they mean, but the blue is very light to me.

So I went and removed the blue on the teeth.....and this is the result.

I'm planning on getting one of these, and I'll probably use the first recolor since I like it more.

That's part of the artist's discretion! lol You do what you like. I would have whitened the teeth even more so they would stand out, but that's only my opinion. The only one that really matters is yours. :)

I think the recolour looks great. I will say that on your second version that the compression looks off, so it seems to be grainier than the first image. I'm unsure if you were aware of that.
