And I'm confused. Are the pets just animals or can they talk and do things humans can? What do you make your pets like? Do you give them animal-like characters or human-like? Would a human-like pet ever be chosen for pet spotlight or would it be viewed as not canon because they are actually animals? Am I looking too much into this? Probably but I'd like to see what your opinion is about this. I have pets that are animal like and human like.

So many questions! XD But I like it. Here are my answers:

The answer is "yes". Some pets are more like animals and some are more like humans. For example, the warador is like a plushified clone of a court jester, so it's more human-like. Conversely, the anyu is seen more traditionally like a wild, or slightly domesticated, bear, so it's more animal-like. Then there's some like the harvester and the keeto which I think would qualify as neither animal nor human, but a spirit-like creature.

And of course, you're free to make your own interpretation, which brings us to:

I tend to do a little of both. I basically have anthropomorphized animals, and I make it make sense in my imaginary world. They have characteristics and stories like a human character would, but they are definitely influenced by the look of the Subetan pet (or sometimes, the look of the Subetan pet is influenced by the story). I think in my head, how the pet looks is almost more like an "essence" of that pet, and their character is only loosely chained to it, free to move back and forth from more animalistic to more humanistic. But that's just me. I try not to put too fine a point on it.

Human-like pets are totally allowed and chosen for the pet spotlight! To quote from the Pet Spotlight Rules:
Quote
If your “pet” is a human character or anything else disallowed by the Custom Pet Overlay rules, that’s fine! But you must still include a Subeta pet representation on the pet page.
Pet spotlights have nothing to do with what is "canon" to Subeta. Thankfully users are not restricted to creating only characters that would exist in Subeta - there's a lot of freedom there.

The only place this becomes an issues is with custom overlays. The Custom Overlays Rules state, "Quads and anthros only please - no humans, kemonomimi/gijinka, or inanimate objects." So even in that quote, you can see that anthropomorphic animals are allowed, but full on humans are not.

Psh, nah. It's an interesting thing to think about. As long as you don't feel restricted in your creativity, then it's totally fine to wonder how this all works, both in Subeta canon and in the practice of individual users. ^_^

Woah! Thanks for the really long reply. I guess subeta pets are just what we make them be which is cool! Thanks!
