On the news post regarding pet renaming etc. from July 28th it says:
Unless I missed something new during my hiatus user name changes are still only possible every 31 days regardless the date.
Now I know that, on the old system, we could theoretically rename our Pets 20 times per day if we had the money but still my suggestion is, to keep things equal, logical and thus easier to understand for (new) users, letting the username change limit reset on the 1st of each month as well.
As someone who has to wait another two weeks to change my name, I like this suggestion.
This is more logical and would lead to less confusion. I approve. :)
I think this is a slightly different situation from the pet names. Username changes are more confusing than pet names since it is what everyone else knows you by. From what I understand, the 31-day wait is intended to enforce the time in between name changes since it can get extra confusing if someone changes their username twice in a short amount of time. If it reset on the 1st then that would be possible (for instance, you could change it two days in a row: once on the 31st and then again on the 1st.)

Thanks for answering. I think I just never really got this reasoning though. After changing your username you always have the chance to either inform others about it (comment, forum, signature) or to simply go on so it doesn'make much of a difference for me if it happens once or twice per month.
The only people that really need to know are staff members and, according to the text on the name change page, the username history gets logged for them anyway.
