I just noticed that there are very few options for masks on our avatars. I would love to see both medical and every day cloth masks, neck gaitors, hijab, and bandannas.

It would be nice to be fashionable and responsible with our avatars.

I am kind of torn about this idea On one side, reinforcing and 'fashionifying' masks might influence people to be safe IRL. On the other side, people might be using subeta to escape real life and would not like to be reminded of the coronavirus.

Don't name them "Coronavirus Fashion Mask". Just put them in MedicOntra as "Fashion Face Covering" or "Fashion Face Mask".

Current happenings aside and my own illness that prompted starting to wear one out of the house without fail, I'm all for more masks here. Especially inexpensive, fashionable ones.

Dog and cat mouths - maybe Feli and Kumos themed? The solar system, the sun, stars. Tiny puppies/koi fish/daisies/bugs/ice cream cones. Piano keys, birds, plaid, paisely, Emoji faces. Rainbows, sunset, ocean, forest. Reindeer, hearts, birthday hats, shamrocks, painted eggs, Fall leaves, snowflakes. Special scary ones for Morostide. Even plain old primary colors . . .

Would love to see more colors! Other than the plain white one, they are all so dark!

I'd like to see face mask tie-ins released during Subeta holidays and events. Designs specific to the different lands would be nice!

Also, I wouldn't call the lack of face mask wearables on the site irresponsible. While they have been commonly used in places like East Asia for a long time, they've only very recently become part of the way of life in many Western countries (and most of the world if I'm not mistaken?) because of the pandemic. The artists do have a schedule of planned items and are dealing with the pandemic irl too.

The virus is a big historical event, with masks becoming fashionable as one of the impacts. Surely there have been other historical events that resulted in changes to fashion, even if they were caused by things that weren't that good?

What I'm saying is, it would be good to see more of them on the site in different colours and shapes and stuff. Having some in Medicontra would be appropriate (and we haven't had new items there for a while), but there could also be some "home made" ones at Thimble and Co, or items that are like kits for making them or something and then the avatar overlay is the mask itself.

Have to admit, the description for the is ironic now.

Support for this! I'd like to see what the staff come up with. But couldn't there be a contest where we submit mask designs that staff choose to become official items?

I own three, but I work from home so I rarely leave the apartment. When I go out, I have a choice of pink polkadots, shooting star on a pink bg (Gravity Falls) and a cute sleeping thylacine in a field of flowers.

But that's not my point.

I do think there should be more masks because I think many people would enjoy using them.

But I don't think it's fair to judge anyone whose avatar is unmasked as "irresponsible" because our avatars don't necessarily represent people who are living in the real world that we live in.

The alchemy professor I'm dressed up as today, for instance, lives in another dimension where magic and science work together, and they took care of COVID long ago. Which is a good thing, because felines can get it!

I may ask if they'd consider reducing the submission price for CW masks. I know that when they set it that high they were thinking of Masquerade and fancy dress balls, but now masks are something that people whose characters do live in a world very much like ours would wear every day.

I totally agree there. It is all about choice! As someone who has trouble wearing a mask due to lung health, I am also at high risk for the same reason. I want to see more masks ... but also more of the other options like face shields, tube scarfs, and neck gaiters. Things that fit those with special needs, so we can make out avatar match ourselves ... if we so choose. Subeta has been great for having inclusive items. It seems so uncharacteristic to have so few masks, but we all have been busy lately.

First of all. you can get the mask here.

Second of all...that wasn't really what I was talking about. Wearing a mask or some kind of face covering in the real world isn't really optional. I have lung issues too and I have trouble with really tight ones but if you have a lung problem, you really don't want to get COVID. It's unpleasant at best.

What I was getting at is that people's avatars aren't necessarily representations of real people.

I like masks and I'll definitely use them on avatars who represent people in this world at this time. But many avatars are from one of the many Elsewheres.
