I've been toying around with the custom CSS of the site recently in order to develop a "dark theme" for the site (I'm borrowing Discord's color scheme). The organization of the CSS is absolute spaghetti so I'm not sharing that, but some screenshots on what I'm working on. It's not even close to done, but most of the pages are dark enough to my liking now!

The main downside is of course the fact that all images are non-transparent, making image/sprite-heavy pages look really ugly. Does anyone know a way around this? Every one of the site's images are non-transparent, which is confusing to me and even a bit disappointing.
I plan to slowly flesh out the entire site to dark for myself, but would anyone else be interested in getting the CSS for this as well? Again, I'm not sure if others have done this already (and I'm sure they would've done a much better job than I have, lol). I just wanted to share and get other people's opinions!
Sad and no longer functioning.

I'll give this a shot in the near future! I actually quite like your version in times when I am in the mood for a low-contrast interface, but has a Dark Mode Shengui Guo Custom CSS project here, too.
I'd be very interested in your project, too, though. :)
Thanks for bringing that one to my attention! Very cool. I'll slowly chip away at my own project in case others would be interested in a more "retro" style darkmode ; )

I'm quite rusty at dabbling with Subeta's divs in particular, but let me know if you need a hand. :) I really like your theme, it does remind me of older dark modes ;)
You could minimally 'dim' some of the sprites setting the opacity to 90-95%? I think I occasionally did that here and there. But yeah, it's annoying.
Feel free to hit me up if you ever want to rant about the truly absurd amount of buttons and button-like objects on this site? Or have problems with getting at something, the js generated tooltips were a pain.
I really like that yours is blue tinted by the way? I originally meant to make a recolor like that as well as a more earthy tones one, sadly never got to it :D
I appreciate it! I'm only average at CSS myself so this is very experimental~
That's not a bad idea, thanks for the suggestion! Maybe just full-op on hover.
Lol I feel you on that. I'm just trying to keep everything as good-practice and minimal as possible, esp. with the number of pages on this site with unique layouts/containers. I might shamelessly take a peek at your CSS if I can't figure out how to reach something haha
aa thanks; I'm just comfortable with Discord's blue vector style so I'm borrowing that! I'd love to see your own theme adapted to blue if you ever get around to it!!

Careful with the op on hover, some people use Subeta on mobile. So maybe not too /low/ of an opacity haha
Well, you know, good luck with that, there are like 4 separate generations of buttons in there lmao. Honestly though, I feel you on the good-practice/minimal part, I rewrote mine like...3 times so far? the first go was a total mess, what I have rn is... well, at least not so redundant I feel like I cannot live with it. Feel free to poke me if something is unclear there.
Honestly what's stopping me is that I would have to sit down and edit the atebus wastelands art so that it works as a header and I hasn't been able to make myself do that yet...
I'll try to mentally prepare lol; Every time I think I'm done with buttons I come across another light one and go, "why". I'll need to trash what I have so far, watch a bunch of CSS videos, and then explore the site so I don't make any regrettable design decisions.
I'm sure experimenting with colors again would be a pain for you as well. I was contemplating an elegant way to change color themes on the fly, maybe by using variables or something?
Sad and no longer functioning.
