I recently did a giveaway, to where I had to use a lot of one item to hide some items which I would deem desirable items within the donation corner. This was done to make it more fun but also to eliminate one of the major flaws to the donation corner in terms of users taking advantage of this loop hole.

To which the idea stuck me like a sledge hammer, what if the Donation Corner was set up similar to that of the Free Shop restocking system! To where, items are hidden by a hidden gift box image and users wouldn't be able to see what they are getting from the donation corner. While this change would be for person user run giveaways, the option for the donation corner should remain so the sole purpose of those random donation corner onesie/twosie donations.

To which if you don't or haven't participated in a Free Shop Giveaway, There are random Mystery Boxes items placed in the shop priced at 0sp and similar to a main shop restocking shop. To where, a person had a random chance of getting an item from the shop. Whether it be small value or high value. The user doesn't know until the results page.

Which, my idea is to turn the donation corner into something similar, which it could be setup similar to the donation corner except with hidden mystery box objects and not a restocking shop. The GUI of this platform, could allow users to input a certain number of items they acquired and the system would hide these items. This would eliminate the need to "hide items" For reasons stated above.

Also, this system could be set up in a similar way to the free shop, to where a user can possibly set other requirement to the system and the GUI would allow restocking times in between grabs, set restocking time limits for items that they wish to go out sporadically and time limits to what items go out more frequently.

This would be a major change to the system but I believe also to be a minor change sine the coding groundwork is currently in place for a change like this and would be quite interesting :3

Wow, no. Just no. Why make a second Free Shop? There's really no need for that.

No one is taking advantage of the Donation Corner because whatever is there is available to ANYONE on the site to grab, that's what it is for. And it's not built for users to hold giveaways specifically, we have boards for that.

Mostly I'm against this because it would turn the DC into something else, pretty much getting rid of it. It works perfectly the way it is.

[edit]I would be in favor of ADDING a separate feature like this, I feel like it could be very fun, but I imagine it would take an enormous amount of work

No. The point of Donation Corner is that you give items away and you should have no control over who gets what, like one person only grabs 1 point WT and an other person gets CWs. It's not taking advantage or a loop hole, it's a random chance and giving the items there you agree to that. If you don't like that, hold a proper giveaway, say number the items randomly and let people pick numbers. Second, one Free shop is enough, I wanna see what I'm getting. If I see DC filled with crystals or 1 point WT I peace out of it and go back in a week after it has been cleared by more patient people. It ain't particularly fun.

So... Basically you don't want users who just happen to look into the DC to get nice things when you're doing a giveaway? Fair, I do understand being unhappy about that, but you could try doing a raffle thread instead? One post per person, they get entered into a pool. Put the usernames into a pool, assign a number to them, use a random number generator to pick 3 numbers from the pool. Done. Or suggest a mechanic for raffles instead of making the Donation Corner a lot less fun to browse.

I don't think we need a second Free Shop on the site, and if I'm going through the donation corner, I'd rather have the option to see what's been donated. Nothing would stop people from donating thousands of slots sporks/dung fruit into DC boxes along with like... three 1000 point tokens, and going "OHBOY I am doing a giveaway and there are some really amazing items in there! "

I think the current system works fine.

Sorry guys I did not mean to get rid of the donation corner just a separate area on site for events of a nature user ran to where, one can hold a giveaway where there not just big ticket items but smaller in value as well. I wouldn't say get rid of the donation corner in general.

I personally think it would be a coding issue myself, but most of the frame work in already in place so it could be possible to alter the free shop in some way and the restocking system to allow users a GUI for themselves for giveaways.

This idea stemmed from user who complain about getting free items in general from user ran donation corner giveaways. These options, are not giving control of who gets what, but blocks a user from seeing what they get. I don't see a problem there, only that item could be something they don't want? Which free would be free, so not an issue? Maybe you weren't here prior to the free shop but thats how giveaways were done in the past. Its not like the freeshop was created because people complained but because people abused a feature of the donation corner.

That would be acceptable option if a user doesn't have a bunch of items that want to give out in a giveaway, but this option which I should of titled it better wouldn't be a replacement to the corner just a feature that I would have liked to see.

Bad idea, I forgot you think a suggestion forum isn't to offer opninions just snide remarks and isn't a place for other to offer helpful remarks in any shape or form. To which if I'm looking for that I should post in the feedback forum. To which that topic would be moved here, so in the end leave fucking constructive feedback instead of being a douche. Kthnx

Secondly, jumping to a conclusion it seems, I have plenty of crystals myself from the fragging I do. on site and don't rely on anyone else to do my fragging for me.

First up: Dude, don't be so rude. There's no need for name calling or swearing, even if you don't like someone or their feedback. This isn't the place. "To which that topic would be moved here, so in the end leave fucking constructive feedback instead of being a douche. Kthnx" = rude

Secondly, I think this would majorly detract from the DC - there are often (and currently) literally thousands of items in there. Often they're just things a lot of people consider junk, so they won't go through it as they're not interested. Everyone wants something different, and it's nice to be able to look through the DC to find something you might like. I often find (small) wishlist items or things I'd find useful in there, like elixirs or food I don't have yet. Looking is handy! The 5 minute timer (and being unable to peruse the DC while the timer is in effect) already limits people's ability to just search for expensive things.

Also, I find the free shop less interesting than the DC - choosing something random is less exciting for me than choosing from a small selection, even if the potential rewards are much greater. Not that I don't love the free shop, but variety is excellent.

In short, just hold your own giveaway if you want control.

Sorry but it happens to be a running theme for someone in particular to do this with every board I do, so frankly if I came off as rude, apologies but when it happens with every board. It does get annoying,

Also, this is more for those that don't have to leave the page and can grab the same items from that same page. Even if this idea doesn't get accepted something needs to be done with that abuse able feature.

It the main reason why we have a free hop now as is, so thats a second reason opposed to my main reason as to why I suggested this idea.

Okay, this was the part I was missing. I couldn't understand for the life of me what loop hole you were talking about and why it warranted this idea in the first place. While it still sounds like you might be better off doing a raffle or something, I wouldn't be against Staff doing something about that problem in particular.

Okay, but... there's nothing stopping anyone from opening 5 different Donation Corner tabs, waiting until they see something interesting in each one, then grabbing the "good" items one by one as the 5-minute cooldown expires. Unless I'm missing something here. I genuinely don't know what they could even implement to prevent that.

idk, if we're going to go great lengths to "lock down" and "balance" the DC because people are doing something that other people don't like, but is not against the rules at all, maybe it should just be permanently closed as a feature. Trades can also be used for giveaways with a lot more control over who gets what.

We did have a user-run free shop mechanic on Subeta some 13-14-ish years ago. User shops, but everything was 0sP and you could see all the items in the user-run free shop. But those were removed because users were being dicks to other users and taking more than the user-specified allowed number of items and I don't quite see those making a comeback. :/

I'm going to say no support for this. It's not really in the spirit of what the donation corner is. The donation corner is a place to donate your unwanted items so that ANYONE is welcomed to them that might have a use for them (one person's trash is another person's treasure, after all). This is just like real life. You might have a nice new coat, so you donate your old one so someone who doesn't have a coat can stay warm. It's not a game, it's a form of charity. Maybe my pet has already eaten 'sushi' before, so I throw it into the DC so someone else who needs it for their gourmand can have it. Excluding certain people from the charity items seems kinda icky.

The Free Shop is basically a game of chance the staff give us for the new year or special event.

I also vote no on this. I do a lot of DC giveaways, and I'm fine with how the DC works currently. Although..a mass add all items in inventory would be nice..instead of 250 at a time..buuuttt that's just me :D

No support, Sorry but as others have said you don't have to put anything in there if it bugs you that much or you can hold a different type of giveaway in forums.

No thanks. I like the DC the way it is now and don't think there is anything wrong with it. It's a place to donate items so any other user can then get the item, it makes no sense to hide the items available.

This doesn't replace the donation corner, this suggestino would still have the corner in tact.

This idea is for giveaways to where people want to giveaway 1,000's of items at one time to where, a case by case. Awarding users in a forum topic wouldn't be pratical. I'm sure a lot of people who do giveaways of this nature, would do something more often if a feature like this was put in place. Because,

For one Adblocking cannot be allowed with this option, to which some would say well staff couldn't enforce it anyway and people still do this on a daily basis and then the other issue with being able to use the url of the item to grab what they want. If staff felt that these two options were kosher. Then the free shop would have never been created in the first place. If anyone was around for older giveaways within the donation corner.

Currently for user to do giveaways within the donation corner, they have to donate a ton of filler items within the corner to hide items them deem valuable and give a chance for a huge number of people to see these. That creates an issue though, to which a large number of items within the corner creates lag, and having an option like this. Would still require filler items but not in the numbers needed for the donation corner.

I think it'd be nice to be able to set up user-run free shops/raffle shops where there are hidden items or even mystery grab bags with several items, maybe, so I support something like that maybe? Ideally with a user-set timer between purchases to make sure no one's taking advantage of the giveaway/raffle

Certainly not as a replacement of the DC as OP has made abundantly clear, and maybe not even as an extension of it, maybe instead as an addition to the current shop system
