I don't know if there is (or should be) a specific reason for that, it's just the rules. If you want to compare, other games like Neopets (haven't been there in years, so I don't know if it's still the case), you could only have 4 pets per account, while here you can have tons (like 50+).

Because unlike some other petsites, there's no reason that you would need another account. Some sites like Neopets have strict limits on how many pets you can have per account, so the only reason people would have multiple accounts was to have some extra pets.

Here, you start out with a base limit of 10 pets, and there are many ways you can increase that limit. Some people have like 50+ pets, and some even closer to like 100 pets.

Using another account to get extra sP or things like that would be against the rules anyway, so yeah. Since we don't have the pet limit issue, there's really no reason to have multiple accounts.

[edit]You can also change your username and your pets' names and stuff whenever you want, so there's also no reason why you would need to create a new account if you wanted a new username or something.

Partly money. You used to have 5 pet slots you could always use, 5 additional slots for gold account users, and the ability to purchase more from the cash shop. If you didn't have a gold account, had a total of 16 slots, but decided to pound a pet, you could not get another pet until you activated a gold account. Limiting people to one account prevented them from circumventing this and encouraged them to buy gold accounts either from the cash shop or other players.

Things changed and access to pet slots over 5 was no longer a selling point for gold accounts, but the rule never changed. It's not really a bad thing since it helps control inflation and the amount of items onsite. I think the primary selling point of gold accounts now is the auto pricing tool, and maybe the additional quests.

Its not just pets. There were also things like the old trivia game - where if you weren't certain of the answer, if you had multiple accounts you could guess several different things, or if you knew the answer win several prizes, making them less valuable.

We also get some sP for being at the top of high score lists, if you're good at a certain game and had multiple accounts you could end up stealing all those good spots and other people won't have the chance to get their bonuses.

Some things no longer apply, but over the years new things have been added that take advantage of the rule. Like time limits in the Token Shop - so everyone has a chance to get items they want. With multiple accounts, you could grab more than your fair share. Achievement prizes, event prizes and so forth are only available one to a player, so its a big decision if you want to use the item yourself or make huge profit off it. All these things would be subverted if you had multiple accounts.

On a personal note, there's so much to do here, I couldn't handle more than one account!

One of the problems with Neopets is account hopping, which is why cheating is so prevalent there. Having only one account on Subeta results in people being more responsible.

That's a good point about the cheating and stuff. Technically things like that are against the rules on probably all petsites (like Neopets for example, you can have multiple accounts but only one that you actually use for doing things), but there are always people who will try to do it anyway. And it's probably harder to police for a smaller team like Subeta than one like Neopets that might have more monitors or better algorithms in place to detect if people are using multiple accounts for those purposes.

So yeah, limiting everything to one account per individual person just makes it easier for users and staff.

I feel like the limit makes people much more honest. It's way too easy on sites like neopets to do or say whatever you want, and then just create a new account when that one gets frozen. Here, you only get one, so people are more likely to be careful with it. That's just my impression, I don't know if that's the actual reason for the rule, but like many people here already said, there's no reason for a second account here because there's nothing you could do with two that you can't with one, aside from cheating.

The big drawback to only one account is that it doesn't make the site family friendly. If my husband wanted to join I'd have to send in a ticket saying that he's creating his own account. To be on the safe side he'd have to send in a ticket himself saying he's not me.

After that we'd have to keep sending in tickets to ask permission to send each other a gift or whatever.

The first half of what you said is definitely right, but not the second half! You do not need to keep sending in tickets for permission to send gifts to each other, up to a realistic point. If your husband in your example suddenly decided to quit and send ALL his stuff to you, then yes you'd need to probably file a ticket about that. Or if you're sending gifts daily that might also look really suspicious like you're transferring goods between two accounts. But a few gifts here and there is fine and wouldn't require any more tickets. (My husband plays and we send each other gifts here and there and sometimes even spoil each other on holidays; we've never had a problem in the nearly 10 years we've been playing together.)
