So listen - I'm trying to make sure I leave groups I no longer use, stay with groups I do...and also contact folks about group specific things. My issue is that, even on the Your Groups page....I can't see who owns each forum group.
I just counted and I'm part of 629(!!!) forum groups. I don't have the time or energy to click through every single one to see who owns it and if they're still here or iced or have 3048324082 numbers behind their name because they've left years and years and years ago.
If we could edit that page so it would show the group name but also the group owner name (using the user=username function preferably so I can see if they've got a line through them or not) I feel like it would be a lot more useful. Group searches really don't work, and this would at least make checking out our own groups (and possibly being able to more effectively drop some) a lot more helpful. I don't want to click inside a group unless I know it's one I'm going to need to back out of.
[edit] A separate but related suggestion: Please give me a different tab or color or star or something so I can see what groups I own. Again, 600+ forum groups (I'm trying to leave some, but it's time consuming as heck to see what is active/who's still around) and I can't even remember what I own myself beyond my always frequently used few. I'd rather get rid of ones I don't need/use. Lemme delete groups please.
[edit] Please scroll down and see the mock-up under the spoiler in 's post - that is exactly the kind of nice organization and information I'd love to see! (if seeing when a group was last pinged would be too taxing, that's something that could be left out, but the rest of the info and organization would be so helpful).
Support.
The group page could be a lot friendlier in a variety of ways. This would help.
[edit] Another option is to make the Your Groups page a lot more like the forum thread subscription page.
In loving memory of Need posting achievements? Then join Posting Frenzy Achievement Items - searchable list List of Borders and cutouts New at Fresh and Flavorful Ping Group
That also would be remarkably helpful. Literally anything to organize it and clean it up better. I'd love to see the last time a group was pinged so I know if it's even active at all.
- Thanks for making this thread!
I'm in support of all of these ideas. All these organizational options would be really helpful, especially for users who are in a lot of groups. I'm subscribed to a fair few myself, and it would be so nice to have more of a dashboard format listing similar to the thread subscriptions but for groups that display more info/options like owner details, links to join/leave/request invites, date of last group ping, etc. And yes please on added identifiers for owned groups! That would be beyond useful. I'd love to see some kind of page tabbing system for groups we've joined where we could have something like an overall group tab, owned group tab, and maybe an option for a favorites group tab too.
yes please to all of that ❤️
@ Reaper Something like this for the Your Groups page? The Leave Group button would bring up a confirmation popup, but it wouldn't reload the page - you'd be able to mass-leave groups without reloading the page between every group. Ideally, it would also be pin-protected for those of us who really don't want to accidentally leave/delete a forum group. The little "pinged X months ago" line, I'm not sure about. idk how taxing it would be on the servers to keep track of the most recent ping date for every group on the site, but I figured it could be useful to know which groups have been active in the last 6-12 months and which are prettymuch dead.
Also, would you mind if I linked back to this thread from my forum group tweak compilation topic?

I think you've got the right idea with what you got under the spoilers. I especially want the tabbing, since I can't quite remember which of the ones I own and which ones I'm just an admin of (which sounds bad but there is a story behind it). I feel like those are the groups I need the most access to, not the ones I just happened to join first.
Oh my god, I love you so very much right now, no joke. That mock up is absolutely what I'd love to see - nice and clean and with all the info right there and easy to see.
Also yes, you are more than welcome to link this to your bigger thread, please do!
Ohman, I understand losing track. When you're a member of more than 30 groups, everything starts to melt together. It only makes sense that you're gonna want to pay more attention to groups you've made vs. the ones you've joined first, or the ones you've only joined for the QoL service (like Site Update, TS Restock, or Hydrus Pinging).
Aaaa, I'm glad you like it! ngl, that comment made my day better. :'D I didn't want to fire up Photoshop (my room is an oven as is, thank u summer weather), but there's def still room for little cosmetic tweaks. I'm still debating having the "Leave Group" button for groups you own. I think those might be better off having the leave and delete group buttons on the group page itself.
Thank you! I'll clean up the other thread a bit and categorize stuff, but I'll be adding a link back to this thread asap. I feel like this is one QoL update that could hopefully be done without too much issue and it would make a huge difference for people who are owners/members of so many groups.
Man, I do not blame you for not wanting to run that program when everything is already got. My computer heats up like nobodies business when I open PS to make previews for CWs. It's a nightmare and a half.
But seriously, I really appreciate the visualization of what I was asking for - it's absolutely the kind of design that hopefully wouldn't be super difficult to code in and would be such a great QoL improvement.
PS makes for a great room heater in winter! Sadly, it does not provide AC services in the summer. x)
I might make a new mockup for the forum group topic. Noticed while sorting that there are a few suggestions there that would work perfectly with that visual example (quick group muting, favoriting groups, telling private/public groups apart at a glance), but my sCode coding skills can only do so much.
So unfair of it not to offer both heating and cooling ;)
I'm definitely interested in seeing any changes you make, I need to go subscribe myself to your thread ❤️
Definitely support better organization for the forum groups page(s). Right now it feels like there is so much wasted white space and yet very little info at the same time.
I also really like 's mockup, something similar being implemented would be nice. All the useful info easily accessible on the same page.
I LOVE this idea! I'm not a member of quite as many groups as , but plenty enough. :P 's mockup looks awesome, too!
Yes please, and I also like the mockup made. I like that it sorts the groups you're in to be owner first, then admin, then member.
Can we also flag our "favorite" groups in a visual way? Add a star or something users can toggle themselves? That way when we are members of dozens of not hundreds of groups we can pick out the ones we actually check in on on that page very easily.
