Sorry if this is a bit complicated. I'm trying to find the details in case any new people want to know more about the story. There's nothing in the Subetapedia yet and the Subeta Wiki doesn't have everything.

From the Subeta Wiki "Gunter adopted a noticeably somber appearance, stating in his shop greeting that he "has regrets." Rumi and Manwar, NPCs assisting with Neugarten, made note of this in their own shop greetings, additionally mentioning rumors that were spreading surrounding Gunter."

I discovered we can google for old news posts by accident and found this one for Inspector Thorpe. A Grave Confession Google also found this page from the News Archive. It seems that Thorpe's first and only appearance was July 7, 2018 - it was when Gunter confessed and Cardale took Gunter to the SAI security detention facility.

This was where I got stuck.

Quote by Thorpe
I was on my holidays in Veta this week when I got the strangest call to my personal telephone. It appears I will be lengthening my stay here, as a certain Alegarten…that is, "Neugarten" figurehead has been causing a bit of a stir, and things possibly aren&;t what they seem to be. I&;m going to be making some inquiries, looking around for some evidence, I expect this will be a long and tiring case that will take many days if not months to fully understand,

I'm guessing we were told who contacted Thorpe and why in a shopkeeper greeting. If so, I haven't the faintest idea where to find this information.

PS: I've now found the archive page for June2018 - nothing there. I've also been searching for relevant forum topics - not much fun without a forum search. There are three in Feedback and one in General Discussion but none of them mention shopkeeper greetings unless I missed seeing it. Haven't tried the Help forum yet because I ran out of steam.

I have found him here: Click

The only thing I know. He has regret to killed his brother, the shopkeeper of the lost Skeleton. Why he killed his brother is unknown for me. I believe it was something to protect Oetmail or so. I'm not sure about it.

I'm trying to find out who phoned Inspector Thorpe and why. Maybe Anne, Manwar or Rumi said they were going to in one of their Neugarten shopkeeper greetings but I don't know if they are still available to read anywhere.

Gunter killed his brother before he had Oatmeal. (Oatmeal, going by the Subeta Wiki entry, first appeared during the 2014 Peka-Boo festival.)

Gunter's confession can be found through a link in Quick Bites. It explains why he killed his brother. It also says "I've spent the years distracting myself with running Alegarten and later caring for Oatmeal"

The description for the Well Hung Meat comes across to me as revealing Gunter's state of mind. Gunter is having a nightmare or an hallucination about his beloved pet goat and his murdered brother who didn't want to die.

I don't know if it ever said who called Thorpe. I do remember all of the shopkeeper messages did mention stuff about Gunter acting weird and all, but I'm not sure if anyone saved the text anywhere.

It could have just been like an anonymous tip or something from one of the shopkeepers or a random attendee of the festival that was never specified.

:( Perhaps I was expecting too much. Thorpe is from Atebus and Cardale tells him "and this is a little out of your jurisdiction, wouldn't you say?" on the Grave Confession page. I was wondering if Rumi called him because she's anti-government and refused to contact the SAI.

:( again. Maybe one of the staff involved in presenting the story has a copy of the text. It would be a shame if it's got lost because I mightn't be the only person who would like to read these messages again.

The Well Hung Meat post is dated June 25, 2018. I'm guessing that the way Gunter was acting weird helps to explain why he had his nightmare/hallucination.

Well the text did also say he was vacationing in Veta, so maybe someone knew he was in the area and contacted him? But I honestly don't remember if it ever said who that was.

And yeah, all of that lore and the battle challenger was released around the same time, so I think Gunter had been having the nightmares recently and was feeling really guilty which led to him turning himself in (and also they probably did it that year because it fit really well with the theme of the battle challengers for 2018).

And as for the shopkeeper texts, it would be nice to see them again maybe, but from what I remember it was just kind of vague from the other NPCs worrying about Gunter's behavior. I don't think there was anything super specific in there.

I don't have all the pieces together, but I haven't seen anyone here mention the fragment of the backstory mentioned in the news archive for Cash Shop: Eerie Mash Tun

They still have yet to release all the details, and Gunter has been under SAI for a number of months now. I'd like to see a story continuation soon.

From the description -

These hazy memories have been like a dream that Bubbles couldn&;t quite remember for he doesn&;t even know how long. How long has he been in the Underground? He knows that he likes the warm and dry earthy sub-terrestrial town, He doesn&;t like the water. He knows that, but not why. Except…he does know. He drowned. He was drowned. He was betrayed.

I see the above relating to - Friendly Thursday: Bubbles

It seems that you shouldn’t be underestimating one-armed Unliving shopkeepers, either. Something has been troubling Bubbles of late, and he’s not quite sure why, but it makes him ridiculously angry and you’d do best to stay out of his way!

Bubbles is available now as a challenger if you can figure out what triggers his rage and unlocks him!

There's no point in putting the answer in spoilers now because it's in this thread in the 2018 section - ">Complete List of Unlockable Challengers

Have one of Gunter&;s Brewery drinks in your inventory and visit The Lost Skeleton
(Note: you can view a list of drinks on SubetaLodge when the Brewery is closed)

So, a bottle of Brewery drink triggers a hazy memory. This is player knowledge, though. The fictional people in the fictional Subeta world won't know this unless somebody goes to The Lost Skeleton with one of these bottles.

Everything that was posted in the news can be found through google. (I discovered this by accident) It includes the monthly archive pages which is useful for finding the date orders of news posts. I've only found the archive pages for June and July 2018, though, so there might be other bits and pieces from earlier months.

Same here. I found an interesting article in Wikipedia about "> Confession (law) In the Scientific Reliability section it says -

Quote
In a scientific article "Confession Evidence: Commonsense Myths and Misconceptions" by Saul M. Kassin, five myths in the confession evidence system were identified. These myths are 1) trained interviewers can detect truth and deception; 3) people do not confess to crimes they did not commit;

Most people cannot recognize a false confession, because confessions are trusted and a jury or judge would see confessing to a crime in which the suspect did not commit as something against self-interest, which in most people&;s minds does not make sense.

Through debunking these myths it can be demonstrated that confessions cannot be the be-all-end-all in a criminal investigation, and the criminal justice system should implement more tactics and procedures that prevent false confessions from occurring.[5]

We players know that Gunter didn't fabricate a confession to protect somebody else or whatever but what evidence does the fictional Cardale in the fictional Subeta world have? In A Grave Confession he says -

Quote
Cardale: Hello, Inspector. I&;ll be taking it from here. We&;ve had our eye on this man for a while, and we&;ll be taking him back with us.

Why did the SAI have their eye on Gunter for a while? Maybe we haven't been told or it's in a news post I haven't found yet.
