I was very inspired by the rich browns in a lot of van Eyck's work (I studied him during an Art History course in college and I love the intensity of his shadows), so I tried to pull those in here, with the faint hint of Christian imagery!

Presenting my take on St Sebastian! (After he'd been removed from the tree/pillar by St Irene to be healed). One of the most commonly depicted Saints during the Renaissance and for good reason! I tried to show the Renaissance influence in the muscle tone of the body, the facial contouring, and the softness of the eyes and brows.
I always start doing these but I rarely actually enter them haha. I'm looking forward to doing this one!

That's definitely too much clothing for an Eve, but I think it looked better with some fabric. Hopefully there aren't too many other inaccuracies n__n;
This was a really interesting theme for a contest

My entry! I took inspiration from Simonetta Vespucci (1453-1476) depicted by Sandro Botticelli in almost all his paintings (The Birth of Venus, Primavera -Spring in English-, Pallas and the Centaur, just to mention some popular paintings). There's so many portraits of Simonetta. I just took inspiration on some of them. She was an italian noblewoman, Marco Vespucci's wife and the cousin-in-law of Amerigo Vespucci. It is said she was the most beautiful woman those days and it was a model for many painters. One of my fav things on her portraits is her hair, I can spend hours looking at the details on her braids.
Here's my fav portrait of her, made by Botticelli, where I took inspiration for her hair/clothes. And and here for the background.

I used to do historical recreation costuming in the SCA, and this is actually very close to the styling of the Italian renaissance; high-waisted dresses with embellishments, especially on the bust and bodice, over a linen chemise with gathers and loose sleeves, and detachable sleeves tied loosely to the dress and over the chemise with ribbons. Elaborate braids with flowers or even flower crowns were a popular hairstyle, especially for unmarried women who could allow the rest of their hair to flow down their backs and were not required to put up their hair or cover any of it, and pearls were among the most popular jewellery accessories. I'm sure I put too much mascara on her, but kohl was used as an eyeliner and berry juices to redden the lips. There wasn't much available then in the way of eyeshadow, so I didn't use any of that.
The vibrant pink wasn't a common colour in that era, but we get to have a little fun here at Subeta, right? and the golden embellishments were very period, even though the dress I used was meant to be a Sailor Moon tribute.

Yay the palette won! 🎨 And even better: I love love love the Renaissance, so amazingly detailed and elegant~
This was loosely based on Venus (Venus and Mars!

I based my outfit loosely around Van Eyck's Arnolfini Portrait.

I was inspired by masquerades that were popular during the Carnival season in Venice, Italy.

Here's my entry: Private Outfit Sure had fun making this! :D Just a general portait of an upperclass/noble renaissance woman I'm not really knowledgeable about the renaissance fashion nor could I accurately interpret them on my HA , but I tried to make it as close as possible and I also used a darker background to bring out the colors <3 I also had fun trying to make the features on the face a bit more realistic using shadows,blushes and contours.
