I am kind of guessing at how the forum groups work but I think when you click on "recent posts" on someone's profile it shows posts in private forum group threadss. Clicking to go to the thread or post gives the error: "Oh No! You aren't a member of this forum group Back to Last Page"

Could these posts be hidden from the post history page? Kind of overrides the point of private forums if you can just look at the post history of people you know are in the group and read all of it (since anyone's post history can be found just by adding their user ID to the url of your own post history).

I guess I'm assuming that it's not a bug, but if it is this can be moved to the bug report forum.

I've thought about this when I made my forum group improvement compilation topic, and I'm against removing them from the recent posts. Sure, it's weird to allow people to read your private group posts, but remember that Subeta is also heavily dependent on users to do monitoring and reporting of skeevy things.

If posts in private groups are hidden, that provides a safe nook for various unsavory things to gather.

That's fair, it would mean mods have to monitor all of those forums more closely. From a practical pov I don't know how much is going to actually get caught on the off chance ppl see it, but that could go both ways and one could say people probably don't see them enough to justify removing them from post history either.

I've also gone back and forth on this.

Basically, its been said before - if you want privacy, use sMail.

However, I do wish it was a little more obvious that anything you post, whether private groups or on the public forums can be easily visible to any random user who wants to make a tiny bit of effort.

Generally if I want a recent post to be a little less visible, I'll make a bunch of user game posts, or what did you get fishing posts. I make enough of those random posts that it doesn't look odd anyway.

I like the point you make here lypsyl, I was under the impression private forums where meant to be unreadable by other users, but if that's not the intention maybe it can be made more clear upfront. As it stands it just feels like a weird loophole one way or another- I can read all the posts in a private forum but can't go to the forum or post there? It's a little awkward.

I understand the desire to be able to have privacy while talking to multiple people though- to say it's simply not possible on Subeta is a bummer, but understandable as the forums are somewhat outdated for online conversation nowadays and it might be better and simpler to have some kind of group discord at this point.
