I've been working on an overlay that turns a storm devonti into a soapy sheep, and I'm stuck trying to figure out how to remove the rain and lightning from where it hits her fur. This is what I have so far:

Is there any sort of shortcut to getting rid of the rain and lightning without having to painstakingly remove it pixel by pixel?
Can I ask:
Sure thing!
I'm using GIMP and I currently have 12 layers. I'm not super thrilled with the colors yet so I'm still working on stuff, but these are the layers I basically have from bottom to top:
Since the lightning is part of the original devonti look, it is also a part of .
Thanks for the info! I'm not really familiar with GIMP, but there's a feature in Photoshop (which I am familiar with) called "Color Select" – it allows you to select all the pixels that are a specific color or similar colors (depending on the threshold of similarity that you set when using Color Select). I just looked to see if GIMP has a similar feature, and it does! It's called "Select By Color," and there's a page on the GIMP website right here that goes over how to use it and what it does.
Since the rain and lightning are part of the original devonti art, I would suggest seeing if you can use Select By Color (with some threshold) on the lightning/rain in layer , then deselecting the suds/clouds/eyes, which would probably be selected too because of their light color, and seeing if there are any blanket color adjustments you can make within that selection. Again, not familiar with GIMP, so I'm not sure what color replacement or hue/saturation features it has, but I think going that route would be faster than manually, carefully taking out the lightning/rain pixel-by-pixel. You'll probably still have to do some manual adjustments if it works, in order to smooth everything out and make it look seamless, but hopefully it can save you some time/work.
I'd also recommend saving a working copy before proceeding, just in case. If you choose to do this, let me know how it works out!
My experience with Select by Color is that it is extremely imperfect and the ugliness that it would create would just mean more work in trying to clean it up. It gets, in a word, very pixely. It's also really hard for the system to tell the difference between the light purple of a rain drop on fur and the light purple of a naturally highlighted part of the fur.
I've gotten super frustrated with this overlay. I even tried a different pet (storm mallard), but I still haven't gotten very far.
That makes sense... I'm sorry to hear that it's more frustrating than it is useful. :(
I know I'm a total stranger, so no worries at all if you'd rather not take this route, but... I have some extra time tonight and through the next few days, so I could help out if you wanted? I don't at all mind doing it manually if that's how it needs to be done. Again, no worries if you're not comfortable with this, but let me know if you'd want me to give it a shot and we can figure out logistics – I'm happy to help if I can.
On the one hand, I would love help. I'd also love how to figure out how to do it on my own, but help is always appreciated. On the other hand, I have some other stuff going on with this overlay, and I don't want to ask someone else for help when I'm not ready. Would it be okay if I smailed you at some point about it?
