I would love it if the avatar base was split into two separate layers: one for the body and one for the head. This would allow for more layering possibilities regarding wigs, since lots of wigs cover a lot of the chest area. I'm not a fan of wigs that cover too much of the chest and arms, and I would use wigs like etc WAY more often if I could just get the hair out from in front of my shoulders D:
Maybe we just need a wearable shoulders / chest item (like we have the base coloured gloves to stop the HA's arms being covered by certain dresses), like a skin tone bolero or something, so we can cover the hair that hits that area?

Wouldn't a ton of items have to be coded for this suggestion? If so, no support.

Here's what I'm thinking (rough approximation done in Paint):
These would be two separate layers.
That would work too, as long as they made it in lots of different skin tones like the Art Print sleeve items.
I'm going to say yes just so I can be a floating head

Here is what your suggestion looks like with the items you've listed;
Your suggestion works for the third one, but for the other three it creates a weird clipping problem with the neck.
I like this suggestion but I'm not sure how many items would actually benefit from it, since it seems to me that the hair must be out of the way a certain distance (no where near the neck) to begin to benefit from this and at that point you could use clothes (jackets for example) to obscure the hair I feel.
TLDR; basically if you cannot fix the problem now with a turtleneck item, this suggestion won't fix it either unfortunately.
There are a lot of items that have these issues. So often I get a "perfect" look, only I want this one piece of the (hair/jacket/cape/whatever) over/under that other item/body part.
Layering is a huge challenge and sometimes I just want some scissors so I can cut off one errant piece.
Unfortunately, I don't see this suggestion really working. Maybe more flesh tones body parts like the gloves would help.

Oh shit, I see what you mean. I have a hard time visualizing stuff sometimes, I guess. I should just get better at layering >_<
I donβt think the clipping is too bad on those examples, and I love the idea of the skin tone covers similar to the gloves! There will always be layering weirdness to work around but some kind of sheer overlay would be really fun to play around with.
Clothing kinda solves this problem?
I support the idea of "sheer" patches like the gloves but I wonder how you'd implement them, since sometimes you might want hair to show up on one side but not the other and also want the hair to hang entirely back.
I don't see that the layering error is all that big either way. Sometimes when my hair is long the wind and my head motion just makes it look weird unless I have shellacked the whole thing down with a perm and fuckton of hairspray. And then a windy or humid day can undo even that.
Subeta has a ton of hair items and not everything is going to work even so. Have you tried asking on the Human Avatars subforum to see if there is hair similar to what you want that only flows behind?
