I realize that Lumi is a ways away but this has nothing to do with 2019, more so the items from years past.
I was thinking, what if Melody had a shop that had all the items from past years? It could open a week or two after Lumi each year to give people a chance to get what they may have missed? Plus those who need extra copies of books and food and what not have a chance to get what they want, instead of waiting on the Free Shop, and well probably not getting the item they want because of RNG.
It could be sP based and let’s say Melody uses the money to fund the next Lumi, though we all know it can be a good sP sink and well no need for new currencies either.
Just an idea, if anyone has any add one by all means.
Some old Melody items are cheap to buy in usershops, but not all of them. Maybe these items could go to the Antique shop (Still waiting on Masquerade 2013, Vesnali and Morostide 2014, and any plots before then that I wasn't there for that have prizes that aren't in there yet), but then they would become very expensive, and the items in the usershops would inflate a lot. I do like the idea of a shop being open for a limited time, maybe the whole month of January, or up until the "End of winter." Maybe it could be accessed by visiting Melody's Cottage after December and during however long it stays open.
The Free Shop does pretty much exactly this. I think it's more a matter of making sure to dump in extra items of those that are the most rare, and dump in enough of them to make a difference.
Yeahhhhh I'd really like this.
The free shop is nice and all, but consider: a) the free shop is random, you usually end up having to go and buy the items you need from other users anyway b) the free shop doesn't take sP out of the system at all. Neither does buying from other users, that just cycles the sP around c) the free shop is only open for a very brief period of time d) you're not guaranteed to get items from the particular Advent Calendar year you want. The free shop usually stocks just the current year, if it stocks them at all. e) Having a shop for old Melody items (& oldoldold holiday items in general!!!) would help to keep people from hoarding ALL OF THE THINGS. Because everything is readily available, there's no need to hoard it in case you need it for a TC or achievement. Hell, I'd be able to clear out at least a third of my hoarding gallery, and I wouldn't need to keep a stock of any items "just in case" they're added as achievement items years later or I need them for eventual TCs.
Soyeah. I'd love for old Melody items to be available year-round, ideally gradually getting more expensive the further back you go. Nothing obscenely priced like the Antique shop, just going up like... 50k each year and the sP will be "donated to Charity to help the less fortunate", or something along those lines. The books and foods in particular tend to get expensive. IDK if any Melody items are required for achievements, but if they are, those prob get mad expensive too.
No, we don't need to make Melody items more common and more easy to get. Visiting the calendar will be redundant if the items are available in a shop all year long - and no, an achievement for visiting it every day is not a valid reason.
Understandable but I don’t mean for this to be year round? Just 1-2 weeks at the most.
@ Johnny Eh, getting something from Melody 2019 for free vs. paying for something that you already got (or even missed a day) in Melody 2018 doesn't compare imo. People prefer free stuff over things they have to pay for. :P
I do get the concern, but if it only applies to older years & not the current one, I don't really see the problem? You can already get one set of the items for free, and if you need multiples from past years, well... there you are. You're set. No need to wait for that particular set of items to get added to the free shop, you can either wait 'til next year, or buy them from user shops as usual.
If it's that big of an issue and I'm not seeing it (not surprising, I can be a dumbass), maybe have it so it offers items that are from 2+ years ago then? For example, it opens this year, but only has items from 2017 and before. Maybe just set it to open during winter, or during December? I'd like it year-round, but that's just me.
Unless its like 1 day limited I think it could cause some damage
As long as it includes the current year's item (or past) only I don't see a problem, but bringing 2009 items doesn't seems fair imo. e.g. items from 2018+2019 for a week or month can't cause any damage.
tbh considering how few users are still around from 2009 and before, I feel that's all the more reason to bring the older years back. ._. Nobody paid anything for those items, they were all given for free.
Like... you get trinkets, candy hearts & other event currencies basically for free during their respective holidays. You pay peanuts in sP for Skitters' items. None of those shops close year-round. And a good part of all those items it is still going for 2m+ in user shops, and it actually does sell! So I don't think it would really break anything that badly...?
Maybe add a way to "earn" access to the shop? Maybe by visiting Melody's cottage for the whole month, or donating enough food & toys to Charity during Luminaire? I feel like it'd be annoying, but it would limit access somewhat. Or have a high markup during the non-holiday season, kinda like the MC does with out of season items.
That's just me though! As fun as the randomness aspect of the free shop is, I'd like to be able to actually buy the items I need while also not needing to hoard anything any more, all at the same time.
Please let's not turn this into another 'I'm older than you and got here before you, therefore I deserve to sell this (free) item for ten squantillion sP' thing. Whenever something comes along which threatens people's ability to make obscene profits, there's always a massive fuss. 'Nooo, don't bring back this ugly little hat from 2005 for a reasonable price, I have one in my shop for millions!'. Let me press F on the world's smallest keyboard. Sorry if I sound salty, it's because I am.
I'm one of the older players who has tons and tons of items hoarded. While I do own fashion and have some ferocious battlepets, I enjoy and am primarily a merchant and most of my hoard is for sale all the time. If you've seen me post over the years you might recall I'm never in favor of "preserving" the "value" of anything.
The thing about Melody is that it's different from ToT, beflowering, smoochiz, or dancing. You only get one of the item in question from her. This is why being able to get just as many of them as you want feels contrary to the spirit of the thing to me.
The Free Shop preserves the "show up and who knows what present you might get" feeling of Melody to me. And while it does nothing specific about overall inflation of price in the whole Subeta economy, that isn't really what the OP was about. What the Free Shop does do is reduce the specific inflation of Melody Items in particular, and it does do enable new players to get those items no matter how poor they are at all. And so what if you end up having to buy the thing from someone else. It's cheaper.
Skitters/Go Outdoors/Medicontra are sP sinks, but they're pretty poor ones considering how much one can earn each and every day by questing. If we do an Antique Shop type thing then there will be a sP sink, but new players will not be able to afford it. Again, this seems to be anti-Melody to me.
I'd really love to see this.
Ideally, I like to see the shop closed during December, while we collect the current year items. Then open it during the rest of winter with all the items except the current year. Possibly keep it open off season at a markup. Also include the original items from before Melody's cottage existed and it was the advent calendar.
As for adding in Luminaire holiday shop items, I'm not sure about that.
