is there an actual trick to winning bones? i've never won and i just can't figure it out. it seems like as soon as the game gets down to 5 bones, it's just over.

There is a system. Unfortunately we can't tell you because its against the cheating rule.
You can try to look up information on google - of course you won't be able to look for "bones" specifically, but there are a lot of variations on the game.
